Nottingham Knockers Back in Liphook
- Ian (20th Aug 2018 - 16:15:45)

The door to door sales are back in Liphook.

On Devils Lane @ 4:00pm

These people prey on the sympathies of people, but are actually a scam.

The police advice is:

Never allow a cold caller in to your home!
Always use the door chain when answering the door, if you are not sure don't open the door.
Always check the credentials of unknown callers. Do not phone the number on the ID card, use a phone book or a bill.
Never buy from cold-calling doorstep traders or engage with cold callers on the phone.
Do not keep substantial sums of money in the home.
Always keep front and back doors locked, even when you are home.
Keep an eye on elderly or vulnerable neighbours, friends and family.

I likewise had a knock tonight (Monday evening). I answered the door as I was unaware who they were. The gentleman was very polite. It is hard as I am aware it is probably a scam but I did feel guilty saying no. I know I shouldn’t and I’m probably the type of people they target. It is hard as he was so polite and he seemed so genuine. Is there no such thing as an offenders scheme that they talk about?

We had one as well, my instant response was “Sorry, I don’t buy anything at the door” to which he started to say that I hadn’t heard what he had to say and I just repeated my statement. He was reasonably polite and moved on.

Sarah

I used to feel the same as you but the last time they called (at 9pm) and I said I didn't want to buy anything, they swore at me quite aggressively. Now I feel less sympathetic!
