Car breaks Liphook, let’s take action
- S (17th Aug 2018 - 08:22:16)

My iPod was stolen from my car in the early hours of Wednesday morning. I reported to police but it was filed as there were no lines on enquiry.

It appears I wasn’t the only one.

I’ve spoken to Cove housing and they have CCTV in Silent Garden but the police won’t view it as the time frame is too big (6-7 hours). I’m going to contact Cove and see if they’ll allow me to view it.

A resident in Huron Drive said they had CCTV, I would ask they put a still on social media so we can share and try to identify the offenders.

If you have CCTV or know someone who has please ask them to check to see if they captured anyone.

If anyone was broken into pls report it to police if you haven’t already.

The sooner we do this the quicker we may be able to identify the offenders the more chance we have to get our property back.

It’s frustrating the police don’t appear to be doing anything, and I don’t want this blog to turn into a slagging off session please, but we as residents can take action!!!

Grateful for any assistance....

I couldn’t agree more. I am guilty of being complacent on this until both of our cars were damaged about 6 months ago.

There’s a financial cost to everyone if the village keeps being hit by incidents like this, let alone the emotional toll on people.

Police Alert below about a recent spate of thefts from cars in the Liphook area.

Theft From Vehicles - Liphook

Longmoor Neighbourhood Policing Team have received 13 reports of theft from vehicles in Liphook. These incidents occurred overnight between 14th August 2018 and 15th August 2018. Entry was gained to unlocked vehicles where electrical and other items were stolen.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind residents of the below advice to prevent this crime from happening and to keep your property safe.

• When leaving your car, close all windows and lock your car.

• Upon locking your vehicle try your car door to ensure it is actually locked.

• Park your car in an attended car park.

• Look for public car parks approved by the Park Mark scheme.

• When parking at home, use your garage. If you don't have a garage, park in a well-lit area.

• Don't leave anything on display in your vehicle.

• Take all your personal possessions with you.

• Remove sat nav holders and visible sat nav ring marks from windscreens.

• Leave the glove box open to show there's nothing inside.

• Fit an alarm or immobiliser to your car.

• Record the details of your property on the Immobilise website.

• Do not store your car's documents in the car.

• Secure your wheels using locking wheel nuts.

• More information about alarms can be found on the Thatcham and Sold Secure websites.

According to the PCSO's report, published elsewhere on this site, most, or all, vehicle break ins in Liphook investigated of late concerned possessions stolen from vehicles that were not locked.

In future any reports of similar crimes should be made to 101. As well as giving a reference number to be used when making an insurance claim (and if your car was left unlocked, good luck with that!) , all such reports are logged and the frequency of incidents will dictate the degree of investigation required.

With regards to Paul and Penny's comments are fine.

However, it does not remove the fact that the Police are taking zero responsibility for Patrols, etc.

They will always tell you it is the "cuts in resources", etc. However, it is untrue! It is a management issue and they have no proper focus of what their core priorities, purpose and values are.

I can give numerous examples, over a 10 year, of Police abuse, incompetence , self servicing , generally wasting time and filling their days with irrelevancies .

One of many classics was when Sgt 5551 wanted me to fill in a huge 15/ 20 page document about someone driving a vehicle owned by me that allegedly damaged a porch in Petersfield

After my own inspection, it was clear that no damage had occurred to the porch, but the Police sergeant 5551 still wanted me to fill in this huge document.

I had to shame and embarrass the Sgt 5551 to drop the case as it was a time wasting exercise that had no public interest and was only there to fill his day and waste public/ Police time and money.
{ this is all backed up by emails, etc}

Also google Sergeant Paul Beale or perhaps Sergeant David Sanderson.. Both Hampshire's Finest?? Wasting Public money and Police time!

THE POINT IS THAT THE POLICE ARE OFF THE RAILS and doing what they feel like doing

Hence, no resources for night patrols in Liphook?

I think not!

Hi,

My car last night had been ransacked but fortunately nothing of value was taken, The car was locked but we can’t seem to see any visual signs of how they managed to get in.

We are thinking of putting up a camera as it’s seems to becoming a regular thing in Silent Garden Road, worried that they will move to house break ins next!.

Agree regarding camera's, its getting crazy. Very worrying.

Re: Car breaks Liphook, let’s take action
- Victim (19th Aug 2018 - 22:02:59)

Unfortunately Liphook is now "Lawless" & this is another occasions that proves the Police are as much use as T*#ts on fish.

Please no one start dripping about cuts in funding and manpower, they're paid to do a job and at present they're not in this area.

The only time we see the police is carnival night and the percentage of those are "plastic" or should i say is it part time community officers.

You can only rely on yourselves & friends as we clearly can't rely on the police!!!!

- Kevin Webb (19th Aug 2018 - 22:57:49)

Two men with hoods were checking out parked cars along Paddock Way / Weylands close the other night around 1am. Will check back on my car cam. Also had cigarette butts on my drive around the car but security lights and camera probably scared the pie key gutter snipes off.

Re: Car breaks Liphook, let’s take action
- Charles (19th Aug 2018 - 23:55:11)

To the Victim
Unfortunately, you are correct!

The Police are worse than useless!

For example, Police use to interfere with Civil and HR issues at the Parish council 10 years ago in Liphook
Even recently, Sgt Paul Beale "interferes with local news press reporting".
Try googling Sgt Paul Beale or Sgt David Sanderson for our finest

To be constructive we need a public meeting and invite the chief constable to request focus on real crimes

Would you help or support this local initiative???

Re: Car breaks Liphook, let’s take action
- Penny (20th Aug 2018 - 13:34:22)

I do not condone thieving or any other form of law breaking and lawlessness. However people do have to take some responsibility ie do not leave property in your car, particularly not valuable property such as IPhones. I know that many posters on this Thread and other Threads concerning break ins have locked their cars and have not left possessions in their cars but some posters have, so ergo it makes sense for these thieves to target areas with what they see as “rich pickings”. The police are stretched and with more and more rooftops in Liphook and other areas the situation is going to get worse. I don’t have an easy answer but please everyone do everything you can to make life difficult and unproductive for these villains. For the record I do not agree that private individuals should take action – nothing wrong with cameras and burglar alarms but direct action NO. This would lead anarchy. Having said that certainly contact the Chief Constable

Re: Car breaks Liphook, let’s take action
- Concerned (20th Aug 2018 - 18:58:46)

From a recent Basingstoke Gazette article. I think this government has lost it.

It means that there are now just 143 officers for every 100,000 people in Hampshire – the fourth-lowest rate of England and Wales's police forces.

"Thanks to government funding cuts, we now have the lowest number of police officers since 1996. The figures show we have lost more than 21,300 officers since 2010 – that’s a drop of 15 per cent and the numbers keep going down every year."

The latest figures show an 11 per cent rise in recorded crime across England and Wales, and a 19 per cent increase in violent crimes.

In Hampshire, recorded crime was up by six per cent. Violent crime saw a six per cent increase.

To help fund extra police. Instead of increasing Council Tax maybe fine those found guilty of criminal acts /antisocial behaviour etc. Then put these fines towards the funding of more local community police.
If the police are not wiling / able to deal with small crimes like car and property crime and antisocial behaviour anymore. Then maybe there is a case for local people get together to pay for private security schemes. To monitor /patrol of our streets. CCTV cameras on entrances to roads may also help the real police when they do investigate crimes.

- S (20th Aug 2018 - 21:55:42)

Kevin, how did you get on with the CCTV?

Re: Car breaks Liphook, let’s take action
- Richard (20th Aug 2018 - 23:08:38)

I was watching one of these Police chase crooks type programs recently, and despite all the cuts, they managed to find 9 vehicles to stop one car...

I suspect that doing proactive police work, and being visible in the community, who do after all pay their salaries, is a bit boring, so they go to great lengths to avoid it.

Perhaps as an initial enquiry, the Inspector responsible for this area can be prevailed upon to respond in an official capacity, rather than the PCSO, who no matter how dedicated they are, are at the bottom of the command chain.

I would also be curious as to what proactive measure are being taken to mitigate ATM thefts, as it seems the Modus Operandi is find an ATM, locate the nearest heavy machinery, steal that, and use it to get the ATM, and then make a getaway.

Re: Car breaks Liphook, let’s take action
- Charles (20th Aug 2018 - 23:12:20)

Dear Penny

The Police are not "stretched" , but badly focused

For example ten years ago they had time to interfere with HR and Civil matters at our Parish Council, whilst ignoring any criminal matters that the Councillors had requested held with

Currently there are 4 to 5 police staff aimlessly driving around Petersfield, spending a significant time in waitrose and tescos . Chatting, having coffee and checking people's shopping baskets?! Obviously they are very bored.

It would be great if these police staff were to patrol at night in liphook?! Where there are clearly crimes taking place

Penny, Google Sgt Paul Beale or Sgt David Sanderson to provide a small example of wasting police budgets and police resources

This is the tip of iceberg Penny !

- SteveA (20th Aug 2018 - 23:47:05)

Evidently the local criminal fraternity don't think that the police pose any risk at all to their nefarious activities - you only have to look at the footage of the Santander ram raid to see that the perpetrators didn't even bother wearing masks or hats to disguise themselves, so sure they were that they wouldn't be pursued. They could probably have stopped and had a cuppa and a sarnie half way through without fear of being disturbed by anyone from the local constabulary!

Re: Car breaks Liphook, let’s take action
- Charles (21st Aug 2018 - 00:53:08)

Dear Steven and All other residents

Common denominator is all are unhappy, but now we need to work in Collaboration to resolve the chronic issues

Are there any residents willing to help organise public meeting????

Point being if understandly unhappy about Hampshire Police inactivity then it is up to us to resolve the issue!!

Police are too busy scanning through social media for hate crimes to be bothered with REAL crime.

Re: Car breaks Liphook, let’s take action
- charles (23rd Aug 2018 - 10:46:41)

I am surprised they are even scanning social media concerning hate crimes!

I just see them aimlessly walking around Waitroses and Tesco's in Petersfield

What about Police Sergeant David Sanderson [ HEADBUTTED WOMAN } or Sergeant Paul Beale{ GETTING INVOLVED IN CIVIL /COUNCILLORS MATTERS}

A few years ago Hampshire Police would not even respond to 999 calls for 2 separate "roberies in progress"!!

They told me to call 101??!! It was madness! The last time, I had to witness the suspects driving past me in an old transit at 3.00am, whilst still trying to get hampshire Police to respond

Re: Car breaks Liphook, let’s take action
- Sgt bilko (23rd Aug 2018 - 12:11:32)

Think its time for security gates on the roads into liphook

Record all vehicles photo id passengers and deivers

Make sure they have a written permission from a resident to be in liphook
If not Put them in the new cillage stocks and pelt them with eggs

Failing that about time for cctv around the place auto lights where you park cars make them feel un welcome
Or a pack of wolves we let out at night to catch them
Curfew for residents

Re: Car breaks Liphook, let’s take action
- charles (23rd Aug 2018 - 16:26:14)

Dear Sgt Belko,

Your suggestions are very bizarre , unconstructive, have no actual benefit to the community and are pointless.

There is no probability that wolves will be patroling Liphook!! so why mention it?

Lets leave the bizarre , unconstructive behaviour and unhelpful comments to Hampshire Police. Lets not lower ourselvles.

Sgt Belko why not check our Sgt Paul Beale or perhaps sgt David Sanderson. they have both gone off the rails.

Re: Car breaks Liphook, let’s take action
- Sgt bilko (23rd Aug 2018 - 17:33:59)

As i had attempted car break in last year i was just trying to lighten the mood but yet again liphook has shown it so seriuos

We need to stop foreign aid and support our own country first

There is no simple solution im afraid I wish we could wave a magic wand and make the world a better place

But criminals know its going to be 30-40 mins before police get here so they are not worried and if they get caught slap on the wrist no deterrent to criminal activity

Serve 1/4 time of what the courts give them and while inside learn more about breakng in etc

So whats the answer remove everything from your car park in well lit area of fit motion activated lights

Re: Car breaks Liphook, let’s take action
- Andy (23rd Aug 2018 - 18:17:33)

Penny's comment near the top of this thread seems common sense and if people adhered to it there wouldn't be half as many cars being broken into.

Taking ownership for your responsibilities is perhaps one way to lessen the chances of your car being broken into. If I had a £500 ipad I honestly wouldn't leave it in my car for exactly the reason the OP had put a comment on here.

The police are way over stretched and no, they're not going to spend time investigating a car being broken into, especially if it's unlocked (really? Who leaves their car unlocked).

Common sense has to prevail and yes, thieving toe rags are always going to do what they do. Just don't give them any reason to make you a victim.

Re: Car breaks Liphook, let’s take action
- Diane (24th Aug 2018 - 17:57:58)

Some of the car thieves it appears can unlock your car. they have a device that can read your car keys if you leave them in a place where the device can read them inside the house so best to keep all keys safely hidden.
