Dog barking
- Carole (1st Aug 2018 - 22:55:50)

This particular dog barks constantly sometimes from early morning till late night. It is put into its run , even in this heat. I am surprised the neighbours haven’t complained to the dog warden as this would be classed as a noise nuisance, and welfare issue. We can hear this dog even though we do not live on Gunn’s farm, it can be heard in Newtown.

Have you reported it to the dog warden Carole?

Who is the dog warden? Do we contact East Hants Council for this service ?

Hi Carole you seem to know the exact address of this dog and the circumstances, perhaps you could knock on the owners' door and explain that it is a noise nuisance?

- Dog owner (4th Aug 2018 - 18:31:50)

I am an owner of a German shepherd on guns farm. This is a wonderfully well trained and delightful animal. He does however suffer with separation anxiety and has in the past destroyed our home. My wife and I both work her as a teaching assistant and me a police officer. Thanks to my shift pattern the dog is only kenneled between 0800hrs and 1600hrs twice in 10 days the rest of the time I'm usually home. The run has a large brick built kennel which provides shade and shelter all day and is cooler than our house. We are largely unaware of this problem because he only does it when we are away which also makes it very hard to prevent.

Carole please these rants are getting beyond a joke now! first it was my son on his bike now this you know where we live so please come and talk to us rather than posting on here we are nice people if you get to know us! this week he has been in kennel due to me being at pony club and trust me he was better in his kennel then in a field with no shade.i am sorry that he barks and but he is NOT the only dog to bark on gunns farm. in fact Carole I have heard your dog in your car barking when you visit guns farm. more dogs die in cars then purpose built kennels!

8 hours left in a kennel regularly and every time you go out - no wonder it has anxiety and is distressed. It surely would feel more relaxed left indoors. Maybe you need to use a dogsitter/walker for those days if you feel it can't be trusted indoors unsupervised. That is a big breed which needs stimulation and exercise. Am sure with a bit of training and boredom buster toys it could be reassured enough to be left indoors but 8 hours is still too long.

Unfortunately to humans listening to a dog bark is like listening to a baby constantly cry- not only an invasion of peace and quiet but also distressing to hear how unhappy the animal is.

I know of this dog and shes a beauty.well trained as well.kennels are cooler this time of year so shes in the best place.its not all the time i live a few doors up from this lovely family and they treat their dogs well and i dont hardly hear her bark .

Mandi the dog may be a beauty and well trained and its owners may be a lovely family, but I agree with Jane hearing a dog constantly barking is horrible. All dogs bark from time to time such as when someone comes to the door etc. but a constantly barking dog is not a happy dog. You say that you live a few doors away and cannot hear the dog, so maybe you are just not around at these times or perhaps you have selective hearing. However having said that it might have been better if Carole had posted a polite note through the door of the owners' house pointing out that the dog has been barking a long time and appears to be distressed. The dog owner did say he was largely unaware of the problem (not sure what largely means). If the barking still persists contact the dog warden through EHDC.

Prolonged dog barking is annoying for everyone. I have a dog who barks at the slightest thing, she loves it, squirrel, helicopter, bin lorry, does my nut in never mind anyone else! I have tried everything and at some considerable expense.....I would hope that if my neighbours are distressed by it that they come and tell me, I can zone out to the noise but not so easy for others, be reasonable folks.

- dog owners wife (6th Aug 2018 - 21:46:25)

we have said we are very sorry that he barks but unless people come to tell us how do we know and writing it on here is not the place for us to be told. he is very very well trained and he does only bark when we go out so it is very hard to train that out of him we can't be with him 24/7 and he never barks when we are at home.we have put in extra measures to try an ensure he doesn't bark. we have tried to leave him in the house, he was left for 15 minutes today while I popped out and completely destroyed my kitchen. he unfortunately lost his friend a few months ago and that is when the prolonged barking started from what I can tell. again I am very sorry and we are trying to stop it. also he is not left out all day and night as originally stated!

have you thought about getting someone in to walk him at least once while you are out? My dog hates German Shepherds or I would offer!
