Shame they don't pick up all the litter at the side of the Millennium hall. There's always loads of it stuffed in the hedges when I walk by. I've seen other posts on here and Facebook about members of the public regularly clearing up litter from the green and Radford so maybe the litter picks by the groundstaff should be more often.

Or more people are needed to help to keep it tidy, pick up a can when passing by etc. The more good examples we set, the more impact we should have on those who feel that hedges are bins for their rubbish. If they actually see people pick up their rubbish, they may think twice or at least it might prevent another person being tempted to add to the array of rubbish in a particular area.

It is harder to be the first person to leave a bit of rubbish and spoil an area but not so hard to be the second or third..

@KT - don't want to detract from the very positive intention of this thread about Liphook looking well, but as the owner of a hedge near-ish the Hall I can tell you that the local yoof literally stuff their rubbish into my hedge in front of me!

There is no reasoning to be had with them.

Bottles, condoms, umbrellas, empty sandwich boxes - you name it, they hurl it into hedges all along the route from Sainsburys through to a certain development on the other end of Liphook.

But to get back on message - yes, the place is looking nice and well done to everyone from litter pickers, neighbours, Liphook in Bloom, shop-keepers …. !

It makes me angry that people drop letter, yes. There is a level of disrespect for one's community which now exists which is very sad.

However, it also makes me angry that people who COULD pick up litter on their way past it - don't. It takes only seconds and almost no effort.

Thank God for our lovely local homeless man who picks up every bottle, tin and scrap of rubbish on his way from Liphook to Petersfield every day. What a mess we would be without him.

I pick up everything I see when I'm out with the dogs, and in this age of austerity were our councils are almost bankrupt and have to choose between feeding old people and street cleaning - it is everyone's responsibility to clean up if we want our neighbourhood to remain clean and tidy.

There are always going to be disrespectful morons who stick litter in the hedge and throw it out of their car windows, but those of us who don't like the look of their mess should not just walk by and assume it is someone else's job to pick it up.

Our lovely groundsmen work full-time cutting the grass, trees, footpaths etc They are not street sweepers - council litter pickers don't exist in today's economic climate.
