Worst commute
- Mark (1st Aug 2018 - 10:40:33)
You have to laugh but I wonder if anyone can find a worst journey than Liphook to Haslemere on the shorter back road? I have to do it often sadly but today was so bad it was funny. 40 mins from the square to the Haslemere station!
There’s always the possibility of people pulling out of the junctions in the brow of the hill or people who do 20 MPH on the long straight sections. Today it was the temporary traffic lights by the church only allowing a short burst of single file from each of the four roads at the crossroads with no work whatsoever going on, followed by two huge lorries delivering on Weyhill, followed by a succession of range rovers and long jaguars doing six point turns on a left turn at the no left turn junction opposite the station. No doubt to avoid the traffic lights from the church crossroads.
All complimented by the lovely unrepaired potholes as soon as you leave Hampshire!!
Last week we had the fantastic temporary traffic lights in weyhill which stayed on red at both ends all the time and were ignored by most drivers.
Is it just me or is the worst short journey in the area?

That's nothing compared to the daily commute from Liphook to Basingstoke I endured for 3 years.

Tunbridge Crescent to Liphook Station each morning at 8.30 pretty grim

As Tunbridge Crescent to Liphook station is not very far, may I suggest walking or cycling? Better for general health, and probably more predictable time wise too.
I know, from experience, that cycling across Liphook is faster than driving at peak times, by a quite considerable margin!
The route I would suggest would be via London road, across the park and via Sainsbury's car park, to avoid the worst of the traffic.

Hey Bob I travel up to Newbury via Basingstoke. If you leave by 7 you will be on the Basingstoke ring road by about 7:45. I go down to Liss roundabout then through Selborne. Leave it later and the journey will be longer.

There is no direct train from Liphook to Basingstoke. The journey is via Woking, and takes a loooooong time

I think the train suggestion was in response to Liphook > Haslemere journey...

Thank S - appreciate the insight!
Is it consistent, or is that on a good day?!
Equally, leaving basingstoke ring road by 5.10 - 45 mins journey back?
Thanks again,

In full agreement with Marks pieces re the back road to Haslemere; we live that side of Liphook and regularly travel on that back road to Tesco. Our biggest bug bear about getting into Haslemere is the parking on Liphook Road outside the church which makes the approach to Wey hill quite hazardous. I wonder why Haslemere traffic committee has not thought of making that junction a one-way system; come up from Liphook via Church road onto Wey hill and leave down Liphook road so there is no more dodging with parked cars along there. Simples!

Take A3 to hindhead, drop down the hill half way.
Left at Polecat Lane.
Take a left at traffic lights, at the top of Weyhill, take the first left towards Weysprings, park there 7 mins walk to station.

Hi Bob
Yes that's pretty consistent timing and should take no longer than 45mins to get home (probably quicker).
