Coach Trip to Wakehurst Place
- Katy Clarke (18th Feb 2011 - 12:03:29)
Bramshott, Liphook and District Horticultural Society invite you to join them on their annual garden visit to Wakehurst Place, The National Trust’s most visited property.
The varied and beautiful landscaped gardens have a long history including ownership, in the mid 15th century, by Thomas Culpepper the renowned herbalist. The main development of the garden dates from the early 20th Century when Gerald Loder transformed the gardens with the results of numerous plant collecting expeditions.
His work was continued by Sir Henry Price until his death on 1963 when the estate was bequeathed to the National Trust. It is now funded and managed by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
The outing includes a tour of the Millennium Seed bank which was established with the aim of safeguarding 24,000 worldwide plant species. An exhibition shows how seeds are selected and stored as well as research and interactive displays.
The coach leaves from Liphook on Saturday June 11th and returns at approximately 6pm the same day. The cost for transport is £15 per person and entry to the gardens is £8 or free for National Trust Members. If you would like to join us or for more details please contact Jenny on tel. 01428 722387 by 25th February.
Hope to see you there, should be a great day out,
thanks
Katy
