Computer repairs
- Sharon (16th Feb 2011 - 09:47:22)

Hi, I wondered if anyone could recommend a good place to take a laptop that needs a bit of 'cleaning' to get it running faster again!

Thanks

Can recommend 'Habit Solutions' ... in the village on the Midhurst Road along by the hairdressers and restaurant. Our computer has become ill on a couple of occasions and the gentleman there has rescued us from disaster! Check out the hourly rate for repair work. Sorry don't have number to hand. I expect he is in the book.

Habit contact is Brad at 4 Midhurst Road, Liphook, GU30 7ED - Tel: 01428 722796

Hi Sharon,
There's a firm called Disking on the Beaver Industrial Estate which is very good.
First though, have you tried the obvious things such as Disk Defragmenter and Disk Cleanup? These are found in Control panel.
There is also a free download called CCleaner which is very effective. It clears out all the redundant junk from the computer including the registry. You can find this in www.download.com.
After that, if the laptop is still running very slowly during start-up it may be a faulty memory card. Replacing that is best left to the professionals!

Hello Sharon,

I can highly recommend John King, he has done my own computer and those at work for some years, he is reliable, extremely competent, reasonably priced, and a nice chap as well. Try k.c.s@btconnect.com - if no luck he may be in the Portsmouth phone book, his office is in Ramsdean, or contact me via the editor and I'll find his mobile number for you.

Hi

If you use the link on the left hand of the screen (on this site) Liphook Business Initiative, go to members, you will see both of thee business and another one called Fire Crest he works from home in Passfield. There may be a few more.

It is worth pointing out that this website is for use by the general public in locating local businesses as well and not just for business members.

Hi Sharon,
I used Habit Solutions when I had a problem with my laptop (it cut out every time you moved the screen) and after being told it was fixed and charged £50 I returned home only to find the problem had not been fixed. I took it back the next day and was told there was nothing he could do. He wouldn't take another look at it or neither would he give a full or part refund. So this is one place I would not recommend from personal experience. Good luck with you search!

Hi
The best person to do your computer is the guy who owns the hardware store in Liss near the pub before the level crossing on the left (with your back to the roundabout/Hillbrow). 01730 894437 He is brilliant, totally resurrected an obsolete laptop I had, using parts from another and also managed to get data from a dead hard drive (by putting it in a freezer or something); his charges are not high and he was also very patient with a non-computer friendly girlfriend of mine by giving her easy instructions.

Not sure if you have this fixed yet. A couple of things to try before you spend any hard earned cash is to download a couple of applications that may help.

1 CCleaner ensure you download the free version this will help clean your registry which does get clogged up after a while.

2 SpyBot this will check your system for and cookies that are lurking around which are lurking around. A lot of these are not Malware they just monitor what you do on the internet and push you to certain web site.
