Shed
- Al (1st Jul 2018 - 07:35:45)

I have recently bought a new tongue and groove shed from Shedstore. After assembling it with the help of a friend it looked pretty impressive but after two months I have noticed a few of the end slats next to door are warping and showing slight gaps. The question I am asking is are the slats warping due to heat shrinkage and will they close up in cooler weather? Not sure whether I need to reinforce the the inside or what to cover gaps. Any help would be grateful.

Wood will move with changes in temperature and moisture in its width its a natural product doesnt matter what treatment it WILL move
The amount of movement will depend how it was sawn ie grain direction in relation to the face

Hi Al,

GR is an expert on wood but in practical terms i think you will find that a good soaking with rain will help no end as wood swells with water and shrinks when dry.

Good luck,Fred

Yes increased moisture content will make the timber swell

I guess been involved with wood for quite a number of years

Turned a wood working hobby into a job so cannot complain
