Death wish cyclist
- Boris (30th Jun 2018 - 23:25:07)

To the cyclist dressed all in black with no rear light or reflective gear on the road from Passfield to Liphook on Friday afternoon.
This road has lot of heavy tree cover and areas of deep shade, so your choice of cycling gear which make you disappear in the shadows is not the best plan.

Also when you have a string of traffic behind you waiting for a safe time to overtake you, it is not a good plan to suddenly stand up on the pedals and pedal furiously whilst weaving from left to right across the road..
No doubt you enjoy your sport, but think of the heartache you will no doubt cause your family when they have to be told that your actions have resulted in you being taken out by an oncoming vehicle.

Maybe we passed the same cyclist last night at 11.30pm driving from Liphook towards conford. He was wearing dark colours and had no lights at all he was cycling on the road.

I did feel compelled to tell him he was an idiot just incase he didn’t realise the error of his ways!

Unfortunately it seems a daily occurrence. Cyclists need to make themselves seen.

Its such an unsafe road at the best of times and cyclists often cause long queues of traffic as cars are unable to pass. This results in frustrated motorists.

So, should this road have cycle lanes, or at least a separate cycle path away from the road?

At least cyclists would be able to use a safer route, and also great for kids who would like to cycle to school.

Unless the cyclist can be seen in the dark it is still dangerous with no lights and dark clothes. I narrowly avoided one in the dark like this recently. Hopefully the cyclist is reading this!

It's absolutely crazy to be riding in the dark and not having lights on the back or front, they cost about £7 on amazon.

That said I fully expect to see a cyclist round the bend of every corner at this time of year. With the sun and the trees it makes driving very dangerous with the glare constantly changing. On Sunday I was passenger in a car in a lane and the glare from the sun meant we could make out a horse in the distance until we nearly went up it's backside! A HORSE!
