Dog fouling Headley Road/The Avenue
- Barbara (10th Feb 2011 - 15:44:11)

Could the person who walks their dog early in the morning, and passes by the pelican crossing on Headley Road and then proceeds around the corner into The Avenue please please please START CLEANING UP AFTER THEIR DOG?????!!!!!

I am presuming that there is one culprit, as the dog mess is always in roughly the same place, and as soon as one lot is washed away by the rain, hey presto, another lot appears!

I don't need to remind the person responsible, but this route is commonly used by primary aged school children going to and from school, and as such it is common for them to accidentally wander into it or drop something on the ground in or near it.

Quite apart from it being against the law and completely disgusting, it is also putting our children's health at risk as the mess is inadvertently brought into school or homes. We are also supposed to be encouraging more children to walk to school - but this is really making that experience extremely unpleasant.

So - PLEASE CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOG!

Can I also encourage anyone who witnesses a dog owner leaving dog mess behind to please not be shy, but speak up or report the person if possible? Thank you.

I too am sick of the state of the pavements around this area. I walk along The Avenue from the Yeomans Lane area to get my daughter to school and this is just as bad. I am sick of cleaning dog mess off pram wheels, my shoes and my daughters shoes. Every day I issue my daughter with multiple warnings to 'mind the dog mess'.
One day I made the mistake of pushing the pram in to my house without checking the tyres, the result dog mess on my carpet - just what you want with two small children. I am now prepared with a scrubing brush and bucket in my outside cupboard. I should n't have to do this. I am yet to catch any irresponsible dog owners but I would not hesitate to challenge them. It is so disgusting and becoming a real problem in Liphook.

Liphook seems to be getting worse and worse for this. I even took a shovel to a load that was none of my 'business' - pardon the pun (I don't even own a dog) as I knew it would be trodden all over by the un-suspecting school children on their regular path home the other day!
Please carry a poop bag and drop it in a bin - it really is that simple!

As a 2-dog owner, I cannot understand why dog owners fail to pick up after their dogs - it's no big problem and there are dual purpose bins around the village for disposal of the mess, plus a 'dedicated' bin each end of The Avenue. The 'doggie bags' are cheap and easy to use. Owners simply need to swallow their pride at the first instance - easy. Oh, yes, I do clear up every time!

I couldn't agree more and was thinking of posting about this myself. We have had to dodge trampled and squashed (I presume by unsuspecting children's feet and buggies) dog poo in the same spot on The Avenue pavement for the last 2 weeks. It has happened in previous weeks before and is always in roughly the same spot, which I presume is why a number of school parents have found this not only disgusting but suspicious of malicious intent. It's always near the Headley Road end of The Avenue and isn't just in one spot/pile, it seems to be dotted in lumps accross the pavement (apologies for the detail, but it really is disgusting). This is the main way to school for a huge majority of the Infant and Junior School children who walk to school - so I cannot imagine it is even due to a disgruntled dog-owner who is fed up with school traffic/parking in The Avenue, since it is those who walk who are suffering.

Whoever it is, or whoever living locally who might let their dog out at night for a last 'visit' please please please stop. It is horrible.

Similar theme ongoing that's never been solved and probably never will be.

If we know who it is, it's a shame we can not put their name on the Talkback site or perhaps even better deposit what they should be picking up through their own letterbox! Send it registered post so that they have to sign for it.

The kids should come first, sports playing fields and public walkways should be kept clean at all times. Our parish council must know there's a problem but simply appear to turn a blind eye to the problem. If it's on the public areas it's their job, if we do have irresponsible dog owners (which we do), to clean up the mess for us.
