Royal Anchor
- Thea (3rd Feb 2011 - 15:08:12)

I don't live in the village, but am thinking of moving to Liphook to be nearer my brother and his family.

It seems like a lovely place which would be ideal for my three young children. I wondered if anyone could tell me if there is an issue with living close to the Royal Anchor pub?

Is it very rowdy at night, or pretty much like any village pub which I can live with? I am slightly worried from some of the posts I have read that there may be a bit of a 'yoof culture' with lots of young people descending on the village at night, particularly round that area.

Or is this pretty much a thing of the past?

Thanks for your time.

Welcome Thea,

Liphook is great place to live. Clearly, this is an active & interesting forum that is a focal point for local issues, but if you don't know the village/town you could get completely the wrong perspective if you judged everything on Talkback. I expect many places have similar issues but just not such a good central place for vocalising them (actually I take that back - if every parish council is similar, we might as well all pack up and go to France !).

Take your brothers input. Also, I would suggest to come down to the Anchor once during the week, and on a Friday and Sat night - then you can make your own judgement. I expect you will have a good experience (or at least one that is not disconcerting - and nothing like the the large towns represented on the fly-on-the-wall documentaries Police/Camera/Action - or "be abusive/chunder/get arrested" as I like to call the programs !).

However, there is one night a year in the summer, which is absolutley FAB, and involves music at the Anchor until about midnight (maybe earlier - I can never remember !!). You have been warned - so no whinging in the future ;-)

Cheers, Finchie

Just to add the facts to the statement, it finishes at 11pm on the dot.

But sadly we have seen the end of GITG. We shall all have a quiet Summer from now on.

I live very very close to the Royal Anchor and I moved to this village myself 5 years ago to raise my children in a good community with a great school. Occasionally we hear the merriment from the Anchor at kicking out time, also along with the Green Dragon I might add. Never been any trouble....the kids from the school........make more noise than the pub turnout....and the kids are just kids making their way to and from school...it keeps the village young and alive. No issues whatsoever. Very good decision for my children to move to this community.
