Liphook webcam
- roger smith (1st Feb 2011 - 01:05:35)

Living in Liphook, and being a victim of crime so regularly that we have four crime references in the last few months, would it not make sense to have a few cameras in and around the centre? After all, even Liss has a webcam and Petersfield too.

Please, no webcams!!! It's not that bad in the middle of Liphook.

Do you mean CCTV?

No CCTV either please (except inside own business premises of course). Webcams in Liss, Haslemere and Petersfield.

Webcams in Liphook......hmmm..

Has the presence of these cameras reduced the crime rates in those villages and towns?

Who pays for them?

Where would they be installed?

Food for thought..

There is a webcam in Chapel Street (Petersfield) which points up Lavant Street and a webcam in Lavant Street which points towards Chapel Street - these two streets and the immediate surrounding area are two of the worst areas in the town for yobbism, vandalism, the disposal of eaten and uneaten fast food by various vile means etc. etc. - the shop next to one of the webcams has to be the most regularly vandalised premises in the town. Do they function as disincentives to crime? - no Sir - they do not! I cannot imagine who watches the images they capture but if they are prospective visitors to the town, I imagine they take one look and remain firmly glued to the bypass.
