I have just read this and should explain I am Cameron's Dad !!
He is simply 'flipping' phones, ie buying broken phones, fixing them and selling them on.
Do not worry, I have suggested to him that he checks the person he is purchasing the phone from actually owns it before money changes hands.

Haha Dad - hats off to your son for showing initiative & doing something useful whilst learning about how things work in the process - Good luck to him , I've lots of old phones sitting in the draw . I'll dig them out in the next few days as he's welcome to them. If only thow them out
