Just rubbish !!!!!!!
Essential maintenance my backside!!!!
The power was all ok,until they [S&S] rocked up and switched it off.
" Its essential" he says, well I'm for one not that daft.....where were you last May,June, July August,et,etc etc,to prune over hanging trees.
Of course, you don't take action until there is a potential, [not real] issue, heaven forbid you should have an active strategy & a programme of works.
Yes I'm close enough to observe and question,I don't expect this type of work at huge inconvenience without any notice....what about the newborns, and the elderly with dementia all who need routine.....!!",don't care "is there response...
Twice I went to ask, first time "it'll be a couple of hours", and next time "oh another couple of hours.".....ha,ha,ha.
I bet and all on overtime.........and you complain about the prices of utilities !!!
& yes, before you all get involved- I am going to be claiming compensation for all the costs and inconvenience....its a civilised country or so I'm told....allegedly.

It did go on for a very long time and we saw the people there way before they cut it all off - so it wasn't an emergency it was basically planned works as far as I can see.
In which case, the infirm or those requiring power for medical reasons should be given advanced notice so they can be in a position of safety when it all goes out.
Due to the way our phones and home communication systems are
set up these days, with no power the landline doesn't work, the modem doesn't work, we have no mobile no internet on our phones or tablet - so -
no way of making contact with anyone in a medical emergency.
I have a heart condition which is attached [remotely] to a wireless control panel in my home, this relays to the heart monitoring centre. All of this advanced tech was entirely useless. If I had advanced notice I would have gone into the heart hospital to wait for the power to be reinstated. Without notice we all had an anxious 5-hour wait.

Dawn
I agree that you should have been informed but why not keep an old fashioned phone for emergencies which doesn't need a separate power source? Not ideal but better than being completely isolated.

I spoke to SSE yesterday as I am on the priority customer list due to having medical equipment at home.
There was a fallen tree on a cable and they had to isolate it before repairs which meant cutting the power. They rung 15 minutes before to warn me.
Those are the facts. It wasn't planned works

There was a tree that had tilted and was leaning on to a telegraph pole carrying a high voltage line.
This happened in the morning and they closed Passfield Road between 13:30pm and 14:00pm. I assume the area was thereafter classified as "safe".
Power was cut at 16:00pm as "an emergency". They only started cutting back the tree at 16:45.
In reality they had plenty of time to advise the locality, even if they had to wait until 18:00. Instead they chose to cut the power without telling anyone. Local businesses and homes lose out.
Had there been even 30 minutes notice we could have made provision to continue working elsewhere.
Hey ho.
