It really depends on the subject / issue you need a solicitor to represent you with. Some will be a 'one stop shop',but most stuff these days requires a specialist.
Solicitors will specialise in certain matters,criminal law or property,finances, etc, etc and you would need to research carefully,before instructing anybody.
It can become just a runaway train with costs, unless you either are using insurance or agree a 'fixed' fee.
Like appointing any contractor,its well worth doing lots of homework,some communicate well to start with,and then palm you off with the legal execs.!...and some are very helpful,and very expensive...
In my experience.

I've used Burley and Geach in Haslemere for divorce and will writing and their Liphook branch for selling and buying a house. I was very happy with all their services. They didn't charge much and were totally professional. I'd definitely use them again.

As a counter point I found Burley and Geach very expensive, both for my (admittedly contentious divorce) and uncompetitive for sorting out probate on an estate, and unable to commit to a definitive quote for the same.

May I just say how very fortunate you would be if you were "palmed off" with a Legal Exec! A Chartered Legal Executive is a fully qualified lawyer and the term "legal executive" is protected and should not be used by those who have not qualified via the Institute of Chartered Legal Executives see www.cilex.org.uk for further info or list of fully qualified legal execs you could get palmed off with if you're lucky!
Sheesh 7 years of hard study whilst working full time to gain a qualification and still some members of the public think your qualification is second rate. Just saying!

One of the solicitors at Burley and Geach in Liphook specialises in work for older clients. I used him for recent Power of Attorney (Health and Welfare) and found him very helpful and knowledgeable.

I dread to think how much it would have been at other more pricey solicitors if Burley and Geach were expensive! IMO You can't get better, more professional, more friendly or more reasonably priced legal services.

For probate I was quoted £10k with no cap by Burley and Geach. We used another firm... £2k!

FYI - to all concerned;
Its NOT necessary to use a solicitor or legal exec...at great expense for Power of Attorney,save your money !!

Its simple for Anyone who can fill in a form.
The web site is straight forward, and if you are adverse to online forms, you can request hard copies !
Just a small fee to pay, and its all done....& its available for both health & financial.

I would highly recommend Couchman Hanson solicitors in Liphook, both Dan and Christine have done work for our family in the past and we have been very impressed with their professionalism and kindness.
