Last Train From London !!
- Dick (27th Jan 2005 - 23:27:42)

Living as I do fairly close to Liphook Railway Station, I can't help but notice the increasing noise and vandalism that arises when the last trains pull in to Liphook.

We have seen countless acts of vandalism in the Station Road area, such as windows being smashed, tree saplings outside the shops broken or uprooted, but the shouting and the language is beyond a joke.

We were promised a Police presence in the area to meet these trains but that does not seem to have materialised.

Have any others suffered because of these yobs....?
What else could possibly be done...?

Dick -

This has been a problem, on and off, for years now.

The worst aspect is the physical attacks on people getting off at Liphook. Alcohol is mostly to blame.

The police don't have the manpower (they say) to patrol all the local stations as last trains come in, and the violence does shift from station to station - Liss is almost as notorious as Liphook.

It's a general sign of society breaking down and it's certainly linked to binge/excessive drinking.

We've had attempted murders nearby, we've had lots of trains stopped and drivers calling the police and turning drunken passengers off trains... but as to a general solution - I don't think there is one.

What are others' thoughts?

Freddie
