Charged to use a debit Card in local takeaway - Debbie (7th Dec 2017 - 14:18:34)
I was charged 50p to use my debit card to pay for a local take away last night. I spent £22 and the minimum spend is £15 to be able to use a debit card in this establishment (it used to be £10 and there was no fee/charge) It seemed rather odd that in this day and age when people are using cash less and less this establishment has implamented this fee so I looked into it. For a merchant to accept a debit card (not credit card) they are charged just 8p so 50p seems rather accessive but the good news is from January 13th 2018 it will be against the law to charge customers for using their debit or credit card.

As the establishment remains un-named, they have no chance to present their position, and you lose the chance to name and shame them... The public remains under-informed.

Passfield stores charge 40p per card transaction. Other local establishments also charge. Nothing new really

Hi Bush, I didn’t want to name and shame them because I was bringing it to everybodys attention that come January you won’t have to pay this fee anywhere so I beg to differ when you say that “the public remain under-informed”. And in my humble opinion their takeaway food is second to to none.

I get charged by the card machine providers for every transaction it is a cost that needs to be covered
Dependng on what the value of a transaction 1.5% to 3% plus a handling charge rental of the machines paper etc
Small hand held was about £50 a month for the machine plus % of transactions
Businesses must cover costs now use paypal or worldpay zinc cheap one off cost for the machine bt still % for each transaction
