Have they been bought into the 21st century ? Grayshotts as usual are stunning . Simple but effective . Are we seriously gonna have those tacky lights up every year until the twelfth of never?

Here we go again! H- seriously, if you feel so strongly why do you stop being a keyboard warrior and start a fund raising initiative. There isn’t a Christmas light genie you know that will just magic up some new lights and as many other posts have highlighted there are many other local needs that probably are more of a financial priority.

Here we go again same old, same old.
I love the lights, liphook in bloom do a fantastic job, I am sure H they would love you to donate money for new lights.
Failing that move to Grayshott.
Happy Christmas, bring on our lights.

H that is not a very nice thing to say, perhaps you ought to dig deep in your pockets and get new ones.

Well H, I agree with other comments. Why don't you either put your hand in your pocket, spend some of your time to help Liphook purchase and erect some more lights, or move to Grayshott.
I appreciate everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but really there isn't a Christmas light fairy who gives us lights.
Personally I too would love to see some of these fantastic modern lights that other towns have, but we don't have a Round Table, Rotary Club or some kind of businessmans association or even a parish council that can afford to purchase these, whilst meeting all health & safety laws and public liability. It isn't a case of going to B & Q, like the local shops can.
I am proud and thankful to the volunteers of Liphook in Bloom who every year have to face the negative comments, but still add some Christmas cheer to the village.
Maybe next time we see someone up a ladder, changing the bulbs in the decorations we could actually say a little thanks for their time and effort for others.
Thank you to everyone involved with our Christmas lights and I can't wait to see them up and shining brightly.

I love our lights, in a world of white pseudo sophisticated lighting it’s a refreshing change to see our pretty display.
Massive thanks to LIB ..... selfless and appreciated!

"Thank you to everyone involved with our Christmas lights and I can't wait to see them up and shining brightly."
Hear, hear! I actually like the Liphook Christmas lights! They have a rather charming retro feel and evoke memories of childhood and of Christmases past.

I recall last year the moaning and whingeing brigade that knocked the lights made various statements about fundraising to replace our lights. Turns out they were just full of bull then! Surprise surprise. H, no doubt if given Christmas presents not on your ‘pressie list’ you are also the type to tell the giver and have a sulk!! Ungrateful misery comes to mind

One advantage of the 'retro' lights are that they can be enjoyed when lit at night time and are also very visible during the daylight for all to enjoy.
The 'modern' lights are primarily for viewing only when darkness sets in.
Well done Liphook In Bloom.

Agree with most of the comments made, my surgestion is, why don’t people during the year, before Christmas is upon us! Hold a few fundraisers events to raise money for the Christmas lights!
I would be quite willing to help.
Jumble sales
Cake sales
Car boots
etc.,
As a community, we all love our Christmas lights, it s magic for the children, the excitement in there faces is wounderful. Our shops may get more trade, it is so important to keep local communities working together.

Stop whinging about our perfectly lovely Christmas lights.
Christmas is more or less for the kids and my 4 year old doesn't sit there sticking his nose up, saying they need to be more expensive.. He gets so excited seeing them no matter how old or what cost they are.
If you're really bothered buy a few eye patches or generously cough up out of your own pocket.

Liphook residents why don't you decorate outside your own properties with Xmas lights; there are a lot of houses on the roads into the centre of the village and very few houses are lit up.
In stead of harping on about the lights provided by the Liphook in Bloom team, be proactive and get together with your neighbours and put on your own light show!
It could become a yearly competition with the prize given out at the Carols in the square.
Liphook Light up!

hi all,
about 30 or so years ago my company was one of those that donated funds to purchase the' new' xmas lights for the village, the collection was organised by the local chamber of commerce, mick meech from liphook travel was the instigator if i remember correctly,so why cant we repeat the process and local businesses contribute once again to help liphook in bloom buy some up to date lights to compliment the old ones? also the public in the community can contribute if they wish. My company will kick off the campaign with a donation if we can find someone to organize it, (liphook in bloom perhaps)?Just an idea!

I think it's a great idea to approach the finance of the Christmas lights with a collection made much earlier in the year. I have encountered the collecting tins for Liphook in Bloom in the foyer of Sainsburys so that we can subscribe to the lovely flower displays. Is it possible to have the same arrangement to bring in money for the lights? There's no shame in putting in a pound coin if that is what you can afford - and paper money is welcome too!! If we got something sorted soon (say in January ) it could be mentioned in the summer edition of the Liphook magazine.
I'm past the age of organising this but would be happy to rattle a tin for an hour or two.
