Quick Straw Poll on the Timetable for Tue 25th ...
- Finchie (24th Jan 2005 - 12:22:39)

Please post any MAJOR problems/issues you have had with the new timetable in the last 3 weeks so we can feed this into the Portsmouth-Waterloo Line Users group tomorrow (Tue 25th Jan). Please post away here and I'll just print this thread end of play tomorrow ...

Specific dates and impact useful...

The ones I know about are:-
1/ 19th Jan, 19:00 cancelled with no alternatives given (and I guess expensive taxis rides from Haslelmere for people).

2/ 20th Jan, 18:15 cancelled so 18:30 stopped at Liphook at 19:34 (23 mins later then the 18:15 would have stopped). At least an option was provided.

3/ Engineering Works at Guildford from about 10pm, with no buses stopping at Liphook (Anyone have any dates/time/specifics/bad experiences)

4/ The 18:00 fast train is overcrowded, so I am not sure how regularly the "new" extended 17:45 is used ? Comments ? Having lobbied hard for it, I have avoided it because there is no way I am standing on the 18:00 !!

There are also some general comments:
- the appalling options for those that have to change at Clapham

Suggested Improvements
a) Seems a strong swell of opinion to get the 19:30 to stop at Liphook.
b) For the morning services, Extend the platform (not optimistic about that but will table it as a continuing issue!)
c) Still my personal beef to get the 18:30 fast train to stop at Liphook and a fast morning train to stop at Liphook at about 7am !

Cheers, Finchie

A very very good idea if 19:30 evening train stopped at Liphook as well.

I work until 6pm sometimes later,if i miss the 19:00 then
i have to, wait until 19:45 for the next train and only arrive at Liphook at 21:02

Finchy,

Sorry but I wont be able to make this meeting in person. I am working longer hours this week; Petersfield by 7pm would be optimistic even if I weren't.

I've been using the 6pm service quite a bit the last few weeks - I can report it is often very crowded. Most travellers are for Haslemere though so this problem isn’t a result of the 17:45 (I think only about 5 people crossed the bridge with me on Friday). However the 17:45 is getting used a fair bit so the lobbying wasn’t for nothing - each time I use it more people get off at Liphook - last Friday it was about 25 people. To be honest I think some commuters have only just discovered it exists - the posters weren't exactly massive.

Like yourself my main wish is for the 18:30 to stop at Liphook. It would provide the final much needed pre-8pm arrival. I think this is possible for SWT to implement quite easily, they proved it was a breeze on the 20th Jan (I think it even made it into Petersfield on time too).

Although it doesn't often personally affect me as I am a 07:19 user the lack of doors on the 07:28 (shouldn't it be called the 07:32!!!) is a problem. Like others I doubt that they'll extend the platform for a second time (it does beg the question why they didn't just go the whole hog the first time). They don't really need to get the cement mixer out again though surely - they just need to find a way of opening more doors, the electronics behind them can't be that difficult. Of course this is going to become a bigger issue when the 07:19 and other peak time trains are converted from slam doors too.

Final point from myself - the option of an 19:30 service would be great. If that could briefly touch down at Liphook it would fill the final huge blank area on my timetable.

So in summary if I could make it I would have said...

--> the 18:00 is crowded but not the end of the world. The 17:45 and 18:15 provide other options now.

--> We still need some more post 18:15 services. To me the 18:30 and 19:40 seem ideal - stopping at Liphook can easily be achieved, maybe without even having to alter the timetable because SWT have built in so much slack time.

--> Teach the guards electronics so they can get more doors open

All the best for tomorrow. Let us know how it goes.

Cheers. Mark

Finchie

Thanks for taking all this on, and for reflecting my (and others') wish lists so well.

Only addition, in case this gets posted in time, is that this morning's 0728 (which for the second time this year was on time at Liphook) was throughly overcrowded throughout the journey - especially from Guildford - and got in to Waterloo 15 minutes late. This is becoming a regular feature. The answer's more trains!

Rob.
