Finally Fibre for Station Road & Maple Park area?
- Jonathan (28th Oct 2017 - 09:34:49)

Just received this from BT Openreach... (I'll believe it when it actually happens mind you...)

Hello Jonathan,

Thanks for contacting us about fibre in your area.

I've had a look at this and can see the cabinet 16 of exchange LIPHOOK which serves you, isn't currently fibre enabled. However, your area is a part of a government scheme to install Fibre to the cabinet and this project is approaching it's deadline.

The current estimated completion date is First week of November 2017. As I'm sure you can appreciate; installing fibre is a technical complex civil engineering project. Therefore any dates we give you are only estimates and are subject to change.

When we plan fibre jobs we have to take into account all aspects of the work required and give realistic timescales, however these are provisional dates only and are barring no unforeseen issues along the way.

My advice to you is to keep checking our website for updates. When Fibre is available and orders can be accepted, this information will be given via this link:
homeandwork.openreach.co.uk/fibre-broadband/

Our website will also give the details of CPs who offer Fibre products to their customers.

Next week Openreach will be in the process of "evacuating ducts" from the Square down to Queens Rd "ready for spine cabling works". This was meant to happen a few weeks back and was cancelled. Hopefully this means that at last Cabinet 13 will also be connected once the fibre laying crew actually turn up in this area and lay some fibre cable. The original completion date was supposed to be April 17. 6 months late for completion on a minor project is progress as impressive as the new roundabout on Longmoor Rd.
This "highly complex process" has taken over a year for Cabinet 13 and I suspect the same for Cabinet 16. On a recent visit to Germany the rural village we were staying in was being fibre cabled to the home in a completion time of 2 months. Over a year to put in fibre to a cabinet (with public money) is hardly impressive. I sincerely hope you are right about early November but as its from Openreach I react the same way when I'm told "the cheques in the post". They are utterly useless.
