Carnival Finances
- Dave (25th Oct 2017 - 13:58:27)
As always I am looking forward to the procession this year, hopefully a few more floats than the last few years.
I was chatting with some mates and we were all wondering just how much money the carnival makes? I've looked on the website, its probably there but I can't find it.
What I would be interested to know is
Income; how much money comes in from sponsorship, donations and fund raising such as the carnival walk and quiz
Outgoings; how much is spent by the organisers
Donations; how much is given to the recipients/charities and who are they.
I would be intrigued to hear if anyone knows

Very valid questions,.....from Dave,
where is the transparency of this, and where can it be viewed ?
Interesting that all the comments recently re sponsorship / advertising, & nobody asked / raised these questions it seems !
I for one would like to read this, as a set of raw docs if necessary.

I'm just wondering why? And why, if you want that sort of financial info are you posting it on Talkback and not phoning the chairperson/committee members?
First of all I guess you need to ask yourself what sort of organisation is the Carnival, a charity, an association, a private or limited company etc and that should tell you whether you have a right to see their profit/loss accounts or not and where to find them, sorry can't help you there!
That aside, hope it's a great carnival and well attended!

Dave and Mark, I suggest you speak to the Carnival Committee if you have a genuine concern/interest in their finances rather than just sit on your keyboard asking the residents of Liphook!
Might be a good idea to wait until after the carnival tho' as I'm sure they are absolutely flat out at the moment organising this fabulous event ........ as volunteers!
Better still why not join the Committee and get involved, I'm sure that would be the easiest way to learn everything.

Answers to all of your questions can be found by attending the AGM which, from memory, is held in February. Everyone attending is handed a document showing the latest accounts.
If you don't want to wait that long, contact the Treasurer, though preferably after the Carnival as the Committee, now down to seven people according to the website, may be a trifle busy.

If you attend the carnival agm you get a copy of the finances. It is usually held in feb/march

I would imagine this information would be for commite members only
Do you give out your company finances or your bank account details to the general public ?
So maybe volunteer for commite member ? im sure they would be glad of a few more hands
Being on various comits myself i know help is always needed

Ooooh, some contributors being very defensive here! This is a community website and our Carnival is a community event so the initial enquiry is quite justified, after all members of the committee have been quite happy to use Talkback in the past re carnival matters, this is a carnival matter. Presumably nothing to hide?

Rachael
I'm sure someone can find you a copy of last year's accounts (which are publicly distributed) if you or others are that desperate - but it's probably not the best time to ask.

I imagine they are all a little too busy at the moment to even look at Talkback!
Thank you to the Carnival for all of their hard work.
