Flu jab 2017
- BT (30th Sep 2017 - 08:23:38)

I have noted the campaign on this website to ensure that as many people as possible could be given a time to attend for a flu jab.

When I called at the Liphook and Liss surgery in Liphook I was offered the clinic today ( at Liss ) and Liphook in two weeks time. I could also have the vaccination if I was attending the surgery for an appoinment that I have already booked. I don't have an appointment with a doctor ( I am very fortunate ) but I am unable to attend on either of the Saturdays mentioned. Do I assume they are not very interested in their patients having the flu jab?

I understand ( from RSCH ) that this year's germ is a particularly virulent strain and we should all take advantage of the free vaccination.

BT, if you feel the Flu Jab is a priority to you the perhaps you can rearrange YOUR commitments to be able to attend when there is availability.

We are very lucky to have an NHS where the vulnerable do not have to pay for these Jabs so the least you can do is stop whinging and take some personal responsibility for your well being.

The NHS has its faults but is clearly underfunded so perhaps we the public should appreciate what we have a bit more, ease up on our sense of entitlement and realise service does not have infinite resources and perhaps try to help them help us

This morning I attended what I can only describe as a cattle herding exercise at Liphook village surgery. Never experienced anything like it before-arrived at reception, was given a small piece of paper with my "unique number" on it and was then ushered round the building to queue up ready for my jab. Was led to a room of three doctors/ nurses ( not sure who they are, as I had never met any of them before) and waited for whoever was next free to see me. Exchanged my slip of paper for an injection. Not even offered a piece of cotton wool for the inevitable blood that came out so I now have a blood stain on my t-shirt. And was then left to leave the surgery. All done with minimal contact and depressing depersonalisation. I dread to think how confusing it all was for the more elderly patients who were herded around in this manner (fortunately I am in my forties so this was not a concern for me). Some may call this efficiency, others will merely comment on the state of the NHS finances. However, I am seriously considering voting with my feet on this matter, especially as there have been other recent, and in my opinion, detrimental changes to what was once a good GP surgery.

How much did you pay for your jab?

Flu jab today wow very busy and the staff handle the situation very well considering the amount of people that had to vaccinate

Im glad we still have a national health service and will always be grateful for their help.

Well done and thank you Liphook Surgery

Well said L

L, I also attended the clinic this morning and totally disagree with you. What I experienced was a very organised way to get a very large number of people seen in the quickest way possible. I arrived at 7:58 and joined a long queue of people. I registered at the desk, joined the queue for my vaccination, had the vaccination and was out by 8:03. I think that's pretty impressive really! The needle is so small that it shouldn't cause bleeding but I've no doubt if you'd asked for cotton wool or a small plaster the team would have happily provided it.
People are so quick to judge and complain about our NHS, when really all they are doing is trying their absolute best to provide care to everyone on an extremely limited budget. If the process concerns you that much, you can always pay £10 to have the vaccination at Lloyds over the road where you will have a 1:1 appointment.

I'm sad to see that people still moan about the NHS and our local resources! If you truly knew what their workloads are and the pressures they face day in day out you would be grateful that you have been offered a jab at all! Shame on you,

Ungrateful and nothing better to do with your time! I work long hours as a nurse for the NHS and believe me you don't have any idea just how good we have it here in Hampshire. Further cuts are heading our way so if you think waiting in a busy surgery is bad or can't get the exact day that suits you then you really are very spoilt!

BT, L and Amy, you ungrateful, ignorant, selfish individuals, you should go and live in the USA and see what it's like where there is no National Health Service, shame on you

Rachel,

You are wrong about BT and L but right about Amy. Or vice versa depending on you're point of view.
They have no need to go live in the USA when they live here and pay £100 billion a year for medical care. Sure, it's not enough to keep all of Europe healthy but don't forget UK surgeries are businesses that we pay for 100% out of our taxes and they or their staff are not charities who we need to put on a pedestal. We are entitled to demand the best from our employees (although I think they do their best) they are not above reproach. I wouldn't complain on a public forum, but that's just me.

And we should be complain and be boycotting those who avoid paying taxes for their business here in the UK, refuse to contribute, you all know who I'm talking about. Google it. Or maybe, avoid googling it!

Rachel, please reread my post! It's very clear I'm in support of the NHS!

Once again this year I elected to have my flu jab at Lloyds Chemists. When I went in to make an appointment I was told that I could be seen next after the lady before me who was having her jab.

I barely had time to sit down when I was called in and the process took minutes. Great service.

Sorry Amy, I was having a senior moment, did not mean to include you

The NHS is free at the point of need, but it is funded through taxation. Therefore if you are a taxpayer, you can argue that you are paying towards the NHS.- so not as 'free' as some here make out.

Primary Care is paid to provide seasonal flu vaccinations. GP surgeries are private businesses and are paid for every patient contact, and receive enhanced payments to run flu clinics for example.

You will see else where on talkback from Liphook Village Surgery that they also have a drop in option, which I did on Thurs pm only waiting a short while for the nurse to be free. Worked well but maybe avoid busy times eg Monday mornings.
