Anchor Carpark
- Philip Crouch (26th Sep 2017 - 11:07:55)

Newish sign in the anchor carpark - 'four hour maximum/£100fine'. does anyone know if this is enforced? and i thought i had read something on here about this carpark having some sort of 'community use' enshrined in the past. (i might be imagining this) this car park is handy overspill for some of us local residents who don't have on street parking. i guess more and more houses means more and more pressure on parking...? cheers.

yep there is an automatic Reg number recognition camera put up directly facing the entrance.

I believe the time limit is enforced via cameras so no need for a human to patrol!
I also understand that if you are a patron of The Anchor then the staff can take your registration number to ensure you don't receive a fine if you go over the time limit.

Crikey, us residents without off road parking are going to struggle overnight with this assuming it's enforced for overnight parking, anyone know?

Matt - you may wish to enquire if for a charge, the owners of the car park will issue you a parking permit. Not ideal when you are used to a freebie but in many areas now resident parking comes at a cost.

As Bob Dylan once sang, " The Times They Are a-Changin"

This thread from 2014 refers to the access rights / ownership question, though without coming to any conclusion. Perhaps the Parish Council could clarify whether an agreement is in place?

Parish council clarifying something - think that's a bit beyond them

Lets not overlook the fact that this is not a public car park, it is privately owned land so any feelings of entitlement are probably misplaced.

The camera does seem a bit draconian however and I am not sure how it will work for those pub patrons that are visiting for over 4 hours. You would however as a shopper in Liphook be hard pressed to spend 4 hours shopping in Liphook so you will probably not notice any difference.

I think the problem has been those residents (and local business employees such as the staff at Hamptons and Homes to name just two) that have been using the car park as a long-term/all day free car park. I would imagine this is very frustrating for Green King if their customers at busy times cannot park and also for local shoppers who just want to pop into the florist, takeaways or newsagents etc

Re: Anchor Carpark
- Matt (27th Sep 2017 - 21:03:55)

I read the sign and it mentions 4 hours only, it does not state whether this is 24 hours a day, so the car park could potentially be empty overnight.
I am going to call and ask about a permit, there are gonna be a few more cars on the roads blocking traffic flow because of this I fear

The side peice of the car park was originally paid for by the Liphook council, major coyte, was on the council then, dad had a news paper cutting in the loft, with all his other ton of stuff. When the pub gave the ground and the council paid for the car park to be made, so Liphook people could use it during the day and at night when the pub was busying they had the extra car parking they needed. Must try and find the news paper cutting!!!!

Blimey, if it was in the newspaper it MUST be true!!

Re. Steve's information, if you could find the newspaper cutting and get it scanned and put on the website.
When a building was demolished in the corner - the back car park was designated for community use by Parish Council. Unfortunately we believe that EHDC drew up the contract wrongly and it slipped into the hands of the pub owners. Does anyone know differently?

I've fallen foul of this, just had to pay £60 for spending the evening with friends. I've read every flippin' word of the notice outside and there's nothing about taking patrons plate number so if this is the case they might want to advertise it! I'll carry on using the Anchor but will definitely be keeping an eye on the clock

Julie - Why did you pay? Invite them to sue you!

If you're using the pub then just give them your number plate to a member of bar staff, all the staff know the drill.

If you receive a ticket through the post when you were genuinely using the pub then give the reference number of the ticket to a member of staff and they should be able to support your appeal.
