Presumably you will be making a contribution from your sales of photos from Carnival night to the Carnival Committee, to help them fund next year's big night? We do charge others who profit from Carnival night, so would hope you feel it appropriate to make a donation.

Karen,
I love the way you wrote that last comment "Presumably" you make it sound like your not going to be happy with it until you have the pocket filed. I agree with the donation but just feel there might have been more polite ways of suggesting the donation.
I work within a very large business and deal with a lot of decision makers with in the company. If i saw Presumably written it would be to make a point, very blunt but to the point.
Would have thought that a polite email to the photographers would have been, a) better recieved b) would have more engagement from the photographers.

I dont think all people that make money on the night donate, I dont think you get donations from all Pubs and food outlets within the village I am sure they all make lots of money form the night a lot more than what the photo's will sell for.

Very good photos and love the video also.
On the subject of the "donation", i would like to back Neil's point about all the local shops and pubs etc making money on the back of the carnival and I can't believe that they are charged anything? - also don't forget the stores who sell the materials to make the costumes and floats.
As a public event, surely it is the photographers right to take as many pictures as he/she wants and then do whatever they want with them?
I would like to point out that I am not saying that a donation should not be made, merely adding to Andy's point, about the fact that it should not be expected.
Anyway. Keep up the good work!

... in addition, what about the free advertising the carnival has got from them promoting the photos?

Karen is not in big business, at least not in her capacity as Chairman of the Carnival Committee. She works exceedingly hard (as do others) to produce an excellent Carnival for our enjoyment and to support local charities. It is quite right that she should ask the photographer to contribute to these funds if he is making money from selling carnival photos. I am sure he will not be offended - and will also get an even more positive response if buyers thought some funds were going to support the carnival. (Actually I had 'presumed' that anyway).
Andy I thought your remarks were churlish.

Just to set the record straight, I have spoken to Rob and discussed the situtation and we are both happy with the outcome.
Andy, | wasn't presuming anything, it was a tongue in cheek comment!
Hope that settles the matter.

Hi everyone!
It seems there has been quite a lot of activity on here since I last looked! :)
I would like to state that since her initial post, Karen has personally contacted me and informed me that her comment, which she posted in good faith, has caused some controversy.
I would like to take this opportunity to defend Karen as it seems that her post has been taken out of context.

Not too sure about other businesses in Liphook, I know some have given donations directly to the Carnival in the past - just for the record, we support the Carnival in a different way,The New Townies float has x amount of £'s in free stock to help create their entry. We believe that by supporting the float makers, it will continue to have floats.
We used to let all floaters have discounts, but it became clear that some abused this and passed off things for float building that wasnt.
