Sick of Sainsbury's high fuel prices?
- Mary W (10th Aug 2017 - 15:24:28)
Every week the price of fuel at Asda and Sainsburys at Waterlooville is a fraction of the price here at only 110.7 per litre - which makes Sainsburys Liphook @116.9 look ridiculous.
Just off the A3 at the A2150 exit (on the way to QA) at the Asda automat in Maurepass Way, Waterlooville PO7 7XR
I never fill my tank in Liphook, I don't make a special journey, I wait until I'm going south of Petersfield, buying just enough here to get me there, today 51 litres at Waterlooville saved me £3.60.

It's the age old law of supply and demand/competition - in Waterlooville there is a far larger market (as more people live within the catchment area of the garages) and there is more competition - so the price goes down.
In Liphook, only competition is the services on the A3, so Sainsburys charge as high a price as they can get away with.
It has been the same for a number of years and doubtless will do so for years to come - but hey give it another 20-30 years and we will all be driving electric cars anyway and petrol stations will be a thing of the past.

Businesses charging higher prices in wealthier areas? I'm shocked I tell you, shocked to the core!
Just wait until you see the house prices in Leigh Park compared to Liphook too.

I've just done exactly the same thing Mary, I held out for fuel and then made a trip to Matalan for a suitcase and filled up at the Sainsbury's where it cost 110.9 a litre.

Me too.
I avoid it.
such a rip-off.
Still, there are people queuing there every day who don't seem to mind paying over the odds.
all the time people are queuing - why are they going to reduce the price?

I only ever use Shell V Power so can't really comment on supermarket prices, however, it is the same situation with Shell. Guildford and Peasmarsh is cheaper than the two on the A3 by as much as 6p per litre. I time it so I fill up at that aforementioned petrol stations.

I love the way this topic reappears on Talkback every few months, same gripes, same suggestions and I suspect same contributors!
Shame the english summer weather isn't so predictable.
Can't recall where but did see somewhere recently (may have been around Farnham) where petrol price was noticeably more expensive than Liphook. Luckily we all have freedom of choice

Its only a few pennies your saving unless you cover a lot of miles, life is too short.

True it is only a few pennies but over the lifetime of owning your vehicle...

Says Slimetime who only ever purchases Shell V Power. Have you any idea what a complete waste of money that stuff is?

Slimetime - I totally agree with you. I have a slightly older car (perhaps one of the poor of Liphook who cannot afford a new car!!). I was advised to switch to branded premium fuel as it was better for the engine. Since switching, I manage to get another 80 miles per tank and a car that is still moving at 190,000 miles
So, Voice of Reason, you should perhaps try it for a couple of months, see how it works. - Do let us all know.

Whether you buy 95 ron or 98 ron is down to personal choice. I am only following the owners manual. On the one occasion I did fill up with 95 ron in error the difference was noticeable. The point I was making is that over the lifetime of a vehicle it is worth shopping around. We do for mortgages and household utilities why not fuel.
