Philatelist wanted
- Paul A. (1st Aug 2017 - 11:38:39)
I have recently found tucked away in an unused cupboard my late father-in-law's stamp collection.
It's been in there in excess of 35 years and although I know next to nothing about philately I can recognise that there may well be some worth sitting there, particularly a First Day Cover Coronation Issue dated 12th May 1937 that was sent from Kenya and Uganda to England. There's also an album and loads of loose stamps.
Does anybody out there know where I can take this to get some professional advice, please?

We had a similar situation when my father in law passed away. The stamps were eventually sold.
My husband went to Harmers:
www.harmers.com
or you could try Stanley Gibbons
Website:
www.stanleygibbons.com
or Spink
www.spink.com
Hope that helps. It was over 20 years ago in our case.

If you wanted to try a firm locally there is Scotia Philately in Oakhanger, details on the internet and they do home visits.

HI,
I popped into Stanley Gibbons a couple of years ago for advice. They told me then that they would willingly look at any collection - they are happy for you to pop it in to them if you pre warn them. I think they also do home visits. We ended up taking my dad's collection - 7 large crates (I didn't fancy getting them to the Strand) to a valuers in Warwick (long story) whose offer we didn't accept so are now trying to sell them separately.
Some charities are also prepared to help out as long as they get a donation as well.
