Wild swimming

Apart from Frensham is there anywhere within a 20 mile radius you can take children paddling or swimming in rivers or lakes?

Keen to make the most of the weather so any top tips gratefully received!

I've seen one brave lady swim down the canal at Godalming once. Park at the Farncombe boat house, dive in and you can swim all the way to Guildford!

Waggoners Wells
Radford Park
Conford Ford
Lindford Ford (and there is a swing on the lawn by the old Robin Hood pub)
River behind the Passfield Mill (also a lovely walk)

I would not recommend the River Wey at Farncombe/Godalming . Having lived next to the boathouse for a number of years I can tell you that under the murky water lies lots of long weeds that can and will tangle around your ankles .
Be VERY CAREFUL! also u can catch nasty diseases from the river water .

I was always told it was not safe to swim in Waggoners Wells. Could have just been a ploy to keep us out of the water though!

Every Thursday the Godalming Youth Canoe Club meets at the Wharf and kayaks/canoes on the river there. Usually at the end - on a warm summer's night, the kids end up in the water. The club tries to keep the bit there clear of junk and if they spot anything untoward do try to remove it.

There are there from 5 - 7 on THursdays.

It's Godalming Staycation this week too - so free kayaking trips on Saturday for those that are interested.
