Old Pictures of Passfield Common
- Simon A (19th Jul 2017 - 18:13:17)
A plea from the National Trust and the RSPB ...
The developers who wish to develop 48 houses on the Passfield Enterprise Site are claiming that Passfield Common is unsuitable as lowland heathland and therefore should not be a protected habitat for nightjars, woodlarks, warblers etc and hence their application should not be rejected on environmental grounds as it was last year.
It would help enormously if anyone has
a) Records of seeing nightjars, woodlarks or warblers in times past years. (There was a nightjar spotted last year but sadly not this year, though there is one on Conford).
b) Historic photos of the common as lowland heath (ie heather and no trees). I managed to find this one www.francisfrith.com/passfield on the Internet but I'd be very interested in any others.
Thanks
Simon

I googled passfield common photo 1960 and clicked on images, there are quite a few there and you can change year/decade to see more. I'm not sure exactly what you need but this may help.

If you put Passfield Common into EBay there is another photo of the common showing no trees at the junction opposite the shop, which is near to the proposed development.
