Sickening !!!!! - Clare (18th Jul 2017 - 08:44:33) Is it just me or would you be angry if you were eating your lunch in a pub garden (The Anchor) and a women on the next table decides to drop her young child's dirty nappy to the floor leaving shite all on the grass were my grandchildren would be walking ? Then without washing the child or putting another nappy on continued with her drink leaving her child to play on the slide YUCK!!! Rather than cause a scene we moved tables out of the grassed area, then the women paraded the filthy nappy right past every one eating to the bin. Come on have some respect for others !!!!

I stopped taking my children to eat at the anchor because Im sick of seeing parents to busy drinking to look after their young children, they always treat it like they are in their own home as they spend so much time there.

Re: Sickening !!!!! - I (18th Jul 2017 - 13:00:36) Unfortunately this establishment has been thoroughly grim for the last few years. Used to be superb value for money and great to take the kids to. However standards have dramatically dropped, prices still very cheap but general cleanliness is appalling, staff just unable/unwilling to raise their game and I guess Green King just not prepared to invest in the place. Shame and the result is there are now a lot of dregs frequenting the place.

The place looked great and the food quality/value for money was faultless. Unfortunately it has gone back down hill. On a recent visit the service and food quality was shocking. Many children are left to run amok while their parents stay in the bar/patio area and drink. The garden area also needs extensive work. A large fallen tree has been in the garden for several months. It's a shame - something the management need to address asap.

I went on Sunday with my children and half of us were vomiting the next day!! Will stick to Two for One in Bordon, although that can be grim too.... I have 3 children so Links, Deers Hut or Green Dragon are too expensive for an impromptu meal out...

It needs some firm management, better trained staff and the garden needs to be sorted. But...it also needs the support of parents who visit this pub, many of whom seemingly use it has a creche...allowing their kids to run around unchecked while they enjoy a much earned drink. Parents - remember that you alone control your kids. You have a responsibility to ensure your children are not impacting the lives of others.

Re: Sickening !!!!! - KM (20th Jul 2017 - 09:50:36) Whilst I think this post says more about the behaviour of the parents as customers of Hungry Horse - suggest any complaints about service cleanliness & general comments be passed to Greene King PLC customer service Westgate Brewery Bury St Edmunds Suffolk IP33 1QT I for 1 used to enjoy eating at the Hungry Horse but haven't been in a long time due to the issues I have encountered in the past the same old dirty sticky tables in eating area etc - going back years. Let head office know your problems maybe we will get a better pub in the end? worth a try - it's a great shame it is losing so much business in these hard times. By the way it took me quite a while to track down the address - wasn't an easy find on the internet.

Re: Sickening !!!!! - James (29th Jul 2017 - 15:39:20) Please stop calling it the Hungry Horse! It is and always has been the Royal Anchor Hotel! The fact that it is currently owned by a pub company that cares nothing for the pub’s history or location is very unfortunate but we don’t have to encourage them. I had hoped that the recent renovation work would involve the re-opening of the hotel bedrooms but it appears that all they have done is to hang some clean net curtains in the upstairs windows. A lost opportunity, particularly as we now find ourselves on the edge of a National Park. Greene King has a variety of pub brands aimed at different market sectors. For some reason they decided that Liphook, a relatively prosperous location, deserved their low grade Hungry Horse standard. Even their Chef and Brewer brand would offer better food, but as long as the folk of Liphook keep going there, Greene King will feel justified in continuing their ‘pile them high, sell them cheap’ attitude. And it will continue to attract the kind of people described above.
