Do you want Faster Broadband
- Debby OK (28th Oct 2010 - 19:43:28)

This is not a sales pitch.
I recently inquired of BT when our area would be upgraded to receive the faster 20 meg broadband speeds they are advertising. They don't know.
However we can vote for the Liphook exchange to be one of the first to be upgraded to fibre optic lines. This can be done using the following link

www.racetoinfinity.bt.com

Just follow the instructions - but as with anything you have to give some details.
Don't know if this will help AT ALL, but we can only try.
good voting
Debby

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Finchie (29th Oct 2010 - 07:41:27)

Thanks Debby. Great spot.

We have a long way to go as we have 50 out of 3440 - so PLEASE email your local mates !!!

It worked 8 years ago when BT were setting their priorities for broadband !

We need this, as I am convinced my iPlayer downloads are being intentionally slowed down / prioritised by BT. Don't get me on that topic !!

Cheers, Finchie

Fantastic find - now up to # 59!!

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Nick Hancock (29th Oct 2010 - 17:04:46)

We've now struggled to 61. Come on Liphook surfers - if you're reading this then it's in your interests! Note there's a box to tick so BT won't contact you with sales pitches.

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Eneida (29th Oct 2010 - 18:57:55)

Not exactly sure what I'm supposed to be voting for...but anyway I have voted and apparently am No 64!!

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- GD Loveday (30th Oct 2010 - 15:29:50)

I have tried to register my vote for a faster broadband in Liphook only to have the system refuse to accept my vote as my postcode is invalid!! My daughter, who lives just around the corner, has voted with no problem, and we live in the middle of Liphook - near Sainsbury's! Why does it not recognise my postcode??
Will have another attempt!!

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Miranda R (31st Oct 2010 - 14:37:30)

We've now reached the dizzy heights of 83 votes out of a possible 3,440 !!
Come on everyone, vote for faster broadband.... takes seconds to vote.

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Nicola (4th Nov 2010 - 19:50:38)

Voter 114 - 3.31%

Long way to go....

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- jo herridge (4th Nov 2010 - 23:29:34)

vote 115 completed but thats still only 3.34%

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- liz (5th Nov 2010 - 10:38:30)

...118

Just to confirm that Liphook needs 1000 people to actually sign contracts with ISP's (not just BT) before they will then start to upgrade the exchange. The upgrade does not happen just because 1000 people register a wish on the site, unfortunately.

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- neil (5th Nov 2010 - 13:01:54)

Maybe the Herald or Messenger could run an article

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- liz (5th Nov 2010 - 13:48:11)

Its a competition. "The area with the largest percentage of votes by Dec 31st will win the chance to bring superfast broadband to their area. BT will also donate £5,000 of computer equipment to a local community project". (BT website). Worth a few clicks! You need at least 1000 people 'connected' to the exchange to be eligible - i.e. the exchange must serve at least 1000 subscribers - I'm sure we have that.

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Tim (5th Nov 2010 - 19:01:36)

Liz, at the moment, there are 3,270 residential premises and 170 non-residential premises with broadband connected to the Liphook exchange.

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Vic Pires (11th Nov 2010 - 09:57:32)

I love this idea and have, of course, voted for Liphook! Having moved back here from London the drop in internet speed is shocking! I wonder if there's anything we can do in the village to get the word out about the race? I only heard about it because I was looking into a new broadband supplier.
I agree that the local papers are definitely a good start.

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Olli (11th Nov 2010 - 21:12:02)

Voted #138

We just need a few thousand more :)

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Simon (16th Nov 2010 - 16:13:48)

Hi Guys,
I work for BT and know that Caxton (north of Watford Gap!) has 1000 votes and is the leader. If there are 9000 people in Liphook....we should get it.

I think I was #2 in voting!! Just moved to the area from Liphook!

Simon.

A huge thanks to all who have got on board so far.

I have posted the racetoinfinty link on my facebook page asking Liphook residents to sign it... may I suggest the same to anyone else on facebook for their liphook friends that may not look on here very often?

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Nick Hancock (4th Jan 2011 - 21:58:34)

I had a cold call from TalkTalk (my phone provider) just before Christmas telling me that our exchange has been upgraded. They reckon I can upgrade to their - free - high speed package and get up to 14 Mbps. Anything is better than the 1-2 Mbps that I currently enjoy. I've signed up and die to go live later this month. I'll post an update once it's all working (fingers all crossed).

BT are now advertising their own high speed package too, so you do have a choice.

So - perhaps things are now micing forward after all.

Both Sky and TalkTalk have enabled 'LLU' connections in the Liphook exchange - this is not the case for people on the Passfield exchange, though. Just beware of cold calls offering services - check the facts carefully and get them in writing before agreeing. Watch out for long contracts and non-UK customer service - support UK companies.

Thanks to all who voted - shame there wasn't enough of us.

Nick - Please update us all when you have had a chance to assess your new service. Would like to know how it goes. Talk Talk may get a few new customers.

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Letsleap (30th Jan 2011 - 22:01:44)

I returned to TalkTalk last summer after having flirted with BT for a year. My understanding, and experience, is that BT regulate the speed, depending on usage. TalkTalk claim not to, and that certainly seems to be the case. My speeds have been consistently above 75% of advertised maximum of 8Mb and cheaper than BT. If anyone is squeezing anything faster out of the copper wire, please let us all know!

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- John Wingfield (31st Jan 2011 - 12:40:24)

I am with Talk Talk /AOL and i get 9.2 Mb off peak.

Good luck..John

- Councillor Barbara Easton (6th Jun 2011 - 10:36:55)

There is still a campaign going to get faster broadband for rural areas, if you look at the Hampshire County Council website there is a section on there to register, as although we lost out to more rural areas, there is still funding to bid for. Please read their website. Thank you

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Andy (26th Jun 2014 - 21:43:42)

I live in Hazelbank Close and, very luckily for me, I get a down load speed of 13.5Mbps on standard BT phone line... I\'ve no idea how although I do have the latest BT hub that speeded things up 5 fold from my Hub1.
The point if this post is to ask if the green box that was installed on the Haslemere Road opposite Hazelbank Close a fibre optic box? It certainly looks like one.....
I may be getting a little exited!

Yes, FTTC is coming to Liphook very soon

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Paul Robinson (27th Jun 2014 - 06:39:03)

For the record. Most of the hole diggery currently being undertaken in the village is connected to the installation of fibre optic cabling.

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- JA (27th Jun 2014 - 09:36:27)

According to the openreach website Liphook is a "Future Exchange", so will be upgraded to fibre to cabinet, just no dates confirmed yet.

www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Andy (27th Jun 2014 - 18:02:25)

So when the time comes, can I presume they will be digging up our nice new pavements in Hazelbank Close to get the fibres to the houses?
Forward planning at its best!

No fibre to your houses, only to the cabinet. Then existing copper cable to your house.

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- Andy (27th Jun 2014 - 20:01:00)

Thanks for the clarification on that one.

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband

Superfast Broadband in Liphook in Dec 2014

On www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/... the Liphook exchange still shows as FE (Future Exchanges) on the map pin but it is now in the "Coming soon" Excel file with an available date of Dec-14.

Re: Do you want Faster Broadband
- peter (11th Jul 2014 - 21:56:54)

.... Just to confirm, BT are showing a Ready For Service (RFS) date for Liphook of 31/12/2014 for "superfast broadband ". So expect to be able to upgrade in Jan 2015.

Unfortunately for those in Passfield/Bramshott we will be dependent on Hants CC and BT funding to upgrade the exchange.

Peter
