Liphook Railway Footbridge
- CB (9th Jul 2017 - 01:10:21)

I surely can't be the only one who has noticed, but does anyone else on here feel pretty unsafe as they walk over the railway pedestrian bridge over the station carpark?

In recent years it has not been great but tonight I was walking over the footbridge, and I thought the boards were going to give way! None of them really seem secure anymore, with boards wobbling up and down noisily. It appears the boards have bowed at the joints.

Surely this cannot be too safe? Does anyone know if the upkeep of the pedestrian footbridge is the council's or the railway's responsibility? Thank you.

I agree and have asked the Parish Council whose responsibility this bridge is. They say it is Hampshire County Council's, that this issue has been reported to them and a check carried out. However the PC have not heard the outcome.

I saw an official looking gentleman inspecting the bridge last week.
Certainly not a bridge which inspires confidence.

I wrote to Network Rail whilst campaigning during the County Elections - see the lead articles in the Liberal Democrats' Focus leaflet in Autumn 2016. I asked that its replacement should include lifts - similar to Haslemere Station - for the disabled, and for those with children and heavy luggage. I even reminded them that funding had been earmarked for a disabled ramp - already designed - to the southbound platform, i.e. some additional funding was available.
I was informed that it was being regularly inspected on safety grounds and that a decision would be made in late Spring.
It was one of my campaign pledges which I intended to followed up if elected. Clearly I need to pick up where I left off and find out what decisions Network Rail has reached.

I can confirm that some temporary repairs were ordered last week to be done this week with more substantial repairs to be done when more funding becomes available.
