Speed checks
- Elizabeth (8th Jul 2017 - 14:49:34)
It might be worth someone -maybe the people involved in the speed checks near Radford Park this morning asking for the road signage/speed limits to be changed as you come off the A3 into Liphook from north or south - there can't be more than 30 metres between the National Speed Limit sign and the 30mph sign.
Not sure who is responsible for speed limits.

Their is plenty of room to SLOW down its called being responsible
The speed limit sign is a MAX doesn't mean you have to drive at that speed !
If you know their is a change in speed limit why accelerate to the max?

Personally, I would be very happy for the council to put a chicane system in the London Road. One end at the start of the 30 mph sign coming from the A3 and other at a reasonable distance, perhaps 50 mtrs back from that one towards the village to slow those coming down London Road.
By taking it down to one lane in a chicane then the traffic has to slow down........and it will be safer for those trying to cross the road to get in and out of Radford Park.
If anyone wants to start a petition, I already know of a number of people who would support it.

I don't think a chicane would be a good idea in rush hour!
Why not put the 30 mph sign at the end of the slip roads?

Elizabeth
The highways agency is responsible for the speed limits. You can google them to get contact details.
Now you have all the information you need to ask yourself!!
Let us know how you get on

Elizabeth, I do understand that at rush hour there is a lot of traffic coming in and out of Liphook, however, when was the last time you actually saw anyone obeying the 30mph limit along this road.
The council can put up all the speed signs they want but until there is something that will physically slow vehicles down, a sign will not unfortunately work and there are not enough Police around to enforce it.
Its a sad fact that until something terrible happens, nothing will be done because it does not affect the council, only those who live / walk or ride along this road.

I live very close to the London Road and late evenings especially Friday / Saturdays nights it becomes race track. So maybe any new signage should read 'twinned with Silverstone'

You are so right - it should be twinned with Silverstone! We live in London Road near the park. What we badly need are traffic calming measures near the bus stop/lay-bys next to Radford Park, the road becomes a race track from the Bramshott slip off the A3 up to the bend near the recreation ground after dark and through the night every night.

I also live along London Road - the worst offenders are the lorries in my opinion - thundering down the road, ignoring the speed limits - so much that our house sometimes shakes - and we are set back from the road quite a bit....
I'd like to see traffic calming in any form.

Can I suggest you contact Floss Mitchell your Hampshire County Councillor as it is she who is capable of taking this up with Highways, Angela Glass is the District Councillor who will support her.

I reported this road to Hampshire Highways about a year ago and they couldn't care less.
Because it's downhill into and out of the village I rarely see people doing 30. When I come off the a3 and slow to enter the village pretty much every car in front pulls away from me very quickly.
With my young lad and his mum often going to Radford Park and crossing this road I'm very concerned with the contempt drivers show. It really is a matter a time....
HH said community speed enforcement was pretty much all could be done, so far they don't even consider traffic calming....
