Fire Alarms

In the light of the recent tragedy in London - I thought I would make people aware that Smoke Detectors have an expiry date (just like food). While they will probably work after that date they should be replaced, failure too could invalidate house insurance!
If you are in a rented property it IS the responsibility of your landlord to change them - the date should be checked as part of the annual gas safety check when they should also check the fire alarms/smoke detectors. IF YOU ARE IN A RADIAN PROPERTY - you need to check this has been happening. I know of two properties where the expiry dates on the smoke detectors are August 2012 and July 2013!!!
Having spoken with the Housing Department at EHDC you need to contact your landlord (Radian, Hanover or private) and ask them to change the smoke detector. If they do not do this within a reasonable time, or let you know when this will be done, then contact EHDC who will put pressure on your behalf.
