CK03 LGN
- Katie (3rd Jul 2017 - 17:22:21)
To the driver of the copper coloured car with the licence plate CK03 LGN who thought nipping at speed through one of the parent & child spaces to get to the petrol station in Sainsburys a couple of seconds quicker, you are an utterly selfish and irresponsible ____ (select your own expletive).
There is no way you could have seen even an older child or stopped if they had stepped out from behind the large cars on either side and you are clearly more than old enough to know better.
I have asked Sainsburys to pass their CCTV on to the police and I suggest you give up your licence if you can't drive with due care and attention!

Hi Katie, I will not pass any comment except that a supermarket carpark
is not the highway so the police cannot really act. The mother and child
spaces are purely a courtesy marking, they have no legal validity. OBviously someone driving dangerously in a car park is not good but it is still private land.

Driving offences can be committed in a public place, not just on roads so this driver could be prosecuted if there is evidence of driving that is below the required standard.

The Sainsbury's car park in Liphook is very badly designed! But that doesn't excuse careless or dangerous driving, of course.
I think Parent and Child spaces in car parks should be done away with and replaced with wider spaces with no restrictions on who can park in them - and they should be at the furthest point from the shop entrance.

Janet, you are veering off the original thread here. On about dangerous driving in a car park not the size etc of the parking bays.

The parent and child parking is great especially with my two young children! I have enough room either side to get my kids out of there car seats. With My youngest it's easy to walk to the trollies without dealing with the crazy main car park. What annoys me is when people with no children park there down to just pure laziness, and how people speed and drive around the car park. There isnt a need for it.

I'm just wondering - is it legal for online posts to include full car registrations? It may be, I don't know ...
Has the driver given consent to have their registration given in the public domain in this way (i.e. for £30 you can now identify their address .... ?)

Megan - If, as Janet suggests, the wider spaces were at the far end of the car park then lazy people would not pinch them and you could have your pick - great idea Janet.

Have to admit I was wondering the same Paul...

Given that the driver operates his car on public roads with the sign in clear view to everyone I don't think there is any problem quoting it in a forum like this. The editor am sure knows and has to know more about the legallies of what is posted and does check all posts prior to allowing them.
Am actually more concerned about the £30 that allows anyone to match a number plate to an address.

Dave, that I wouldn't mind as long as it had proper crossings ,people stopped for, near the spaces to the shop. otherwise would just be a bigger space but dangerous trying to go through the car park with young children , and with people not paying attention and driving quick would be another accident waiting to happen.

@RD - I'm not entirely certain, but did some quick research.
It's legal to quote a car registration number as it's already in the public domain.
The advice I found was simple - not illegal to quote, but could lead to a claim of defamation so guidance is not to quote it!
Am no expert, just my gut feeling tells me probably sensible never to quote someone else's identifiable information without their prior permission.

Has anyone else noticed the idiot that parks his car in the emergency service access road between The Firs and the new Radian Flats at Silent Garden. Has he not read the news recently. What a complete prat!!

Great point Megan.
People who ignore designated parent and child bays(like people who get jealous and can't see why parents with children get to park in wider bays nearer the door than them) so often jump to wrong conclusions out of ignorance, thinking it's about them.
Parent and child bays are there to make it safer for children, easier for mums and dads to unload pushchairs, buggies and carry cots whilst simultaneously supervising the safety of any older children. Mums and dads you are superstars, we all had parents, we were all kids once (even me allegedly), we appreciate you!
And selfish grown ups in your big cars all on your own, stay out of them or I'll wave my big walking stick at you!
