Hard disk recovery
- Andy (2nd Jul 2017 - 15:54:59)

Afternoon all
My laptop crashed last week and by all accounts I believe the hard drive is toast. As it's a work laptop there is an awful lot on it that I could really do with with recovering. I've tried a chkdsk but no luck.
Anyone know of any local(ish) computer geniuses who might be able to drag any info off of it??
Many thanks in advance
Andy

Andy,

You say it is toast, do you have any more info to share, as it may be possible to remove the hard drive and copy the contents onto another computer

Hi Andy, Richard is correct, from our perspective we can't help youwithout more information it's difficult to see if the data can be saved. If the HDD is not effected, then you are fine, it's simply a matter of removing it and placing it into a cheap case or using a cheap adaptor cable from amazon or similair. Then plugging that into a working computer to access the data.

More info needed:

1.Did the screen fail but the computer keep working: ( test separate screen/cast to TV)
2.Is it power related? Test batterery and power supplys ( replace and interact/swap power cords/batteries)
3.Is the HDD acctually accessible? Can you put the computer on a shared network and view it from another terminal/computer?
4.Is it making any strange noises, whirring, clicking sounds?

Basically we need more info to determine if it is a HArdware or Software problem and then and only then will it be possible to help you figure this out...#

Thanks for all the responses so far!
To give a bit more info, the screen froze whist I was using it and following a forced close it refused to reboot. All it did was remain in a boot loop and the start repair didn't work.
HDD was removed from laptop and using an adaptor cable borrowed from a techie at work (attaches HDD to USB port) did a check disk on it as an external drive via the DOS prompt. That didn't work, got half way through and wouldn't go any further. TBH, instinct tells me it's had it, along with a lot of work. And yes, I really should back it up more often!
If anyone has come across this before and thinks some or all of it may be salvageable, I would be very interested to know.
Again, thanks in advance
Andy

Hi Andy

We have had a lot of success with various data recovery programs but it depends on whether the hard drive spins up or not?

We also have access to multiple circuit boards even if power board is not working?

Am happy to take a look for £29.99.(no charge if no chance of recovery)
our Maximum charge for full recovery is £99.99.

I manage Disking Computers in Farnham but live in Liphook

Work number 9 - 6.30 01252 719719

Kind regards
Suzanne
