Simon, you risk causing another riot in Selborne if you misspell the name of the village. They are very sensitive about it. A few years ago there was uproar about a road sign!

I have taken the spelling of the 1815 ordanance survey map so it was right in 1830

The 1803 edition of Gilbert White's 'The Natural History and Antiquities of Selborne' spells it without the 'u'.
