Dangerous parking
- Irene (29th Jun 2017 - 17:39:17)

To the four cars parked to the right of my drive in avenue close I nearly had an accident trying to get out of my drive at 10 o'clock this morning you had all parked on the pavement which in its self is a crime but you also blocked my view I tried to pull out safely but unfortunately a car was coming down which I could not see and he nearly hit my car the cars were a BMW kx62 DNA a VW lr06nzy a scenic mw57 ymc a peogout hy64 nmo image taken pictures of your number plates and the police are informed I know parking is a problem but please park correctly and please do not block my view

Wow, Really! I watched you take the pictures as i left the school. Did not not witness any kind of "near accident".
The children at the school were presenting a performance which was moving and factual, based around people who came to fight for our country. Without what they were remembering you would not be here today, please get over yourself and perhaps grow up. You chose to live opposite a school its a happy place so deal with it, or move. Sorry if it sounds harsh but very petty if you ask me, there was no direct obstruction to your drive, I too took pictures too, I was in the grey VW.

Matt.

I don't think that parking on the pavement is an offence per se. However, driving on the pavement is; so too is causing an obstruction.

Dear Matt,

How would you feel if you had cars parked all over the place outside your house? I bet you would have something to say!

I know that the children have shows etc (mine have been through both schools), but you park so people can carry on living in the road, I hate to point this out but the house were there before the schools, also you can park in the FREE car parking in Liphook and WALK to the school.

Well I cannot believe the response from a certain person the parking around schools is terrible they do not think about residents in the slightest we are now seeing bad and dangerous parking on the portsmouth road ( station parking problem) the old fairholt site would make a decent car park ) where views are completey block when leaving properties
I wonder how long before a child gets knocked down because they cannot been seen due to parked cars ? then I bet its the driver to blame not the parked cars or the child not knowing how and where to cross the road.

You travel down longmoor road at schools out utter chaos
It is time for this to be sorted before an accident happens !

instead of houses we need a park and ride for the schools as they are so busy these days longmoor road area would serve all 3 schools in that area ???

PARKING ON PAVEMENT OBSTRUCTION
Cars parking on pavements certainly can be hazardous for many pedestrians. In particular, the blind, disabled and individuals with push chairs can struggle to get past an inappropriately parked vehicle. It can also lead pedestrians having to walk into the road to navigate their way around the obstruction.- Taken from driving test tips -
Obviously no concern for those who choose to walk to school or for other pedestrians either - surely drivers with children should respect the need for other parents too! It sound like typical selfish idea of what I want I do & blow the rest of the world.

We now live in an age where it's "after me" rather than "after you."

I don't see how the content of the performance the children were putting on can have any bearing over whether selfish parking is acceptable or not. Bonkers!

The following is taken from the Highway Code.
“Rule 244. You MUST NOT park partially or wholly on the pavement in London, and should not do so elsewhere unless signs permit it. Parking on the pavement can obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs or with visual impairments and people with prams or pushchairs.1 Oct 2015”
I know it specifically says London, but it goes on to say that one should not park on pavements unless signs permit it.
To Jen I would ask how you get on to a pavement in a car without driving on to it.
To Matt I would say that just because you buy a house near a school, pub or any other building likely to have parking near it, car owners should still park considerately and with respect to the people living nearby. Parking right up to someone’s drive is not considerate – their sight lines are then obstructed and even more so where there is more than one car parked let alone a row of them.
I agree with everything said in the last 4 posts particularly the last one – I too cannot see any connection or justification between the content of a school play, however laudable and inconsiderate parking.

Penny,

"To Jen I would ask how you get on to a pavement in a car without driving on to it"

^^ Indeed! That was the gist of my post. I was pointing out the bizarre nature of the law, where in order to park on the pavement, which in itself is not a criminal offence, one has by necessity to drive on said pavement - which IS a criminal offence! So if a car is found parked on the pavement, the driver won't be prosecuted for parking there because the parking itself is not an offence, but if the car is deemed to be causing an obstruction, then that IS a criminal offence and the driver could be prosecuted!

Let's hope Bohunt 6th Form provide parking spaces for their students who will no doubt be driving their second year!

I remember as a child walking everywhere, shame everyone is in such a hurry these days!

The police came to see me and my husband yesterday about this situation which was discussed they even walked down my garden with my husband to see for themselves. All I can say is drivers beware they were not happy with the situation. As regards with the above message not to buy a house near a school these houses were here long before the school.
All I ask for is people who park here to please park carefully and think of residents who live here.

Hello Irene,

I am very pleased that the police have taken an interest in your parking problem :-)
