I tend to agree with the comments posted about The green Dragon - but isn't it always the same when a new manager takes over a pub? All the people barred by the previous manager can't wait to try out the new one to see what they can get away with. Hopefull the new lady there will soon identify who is and is not acceptable. If not, she's got a big problem brewing.

She's been there three weeks now, and it's getting worse not better! The lunchtime trade, some of whom have been drinking there for 40 years are now drinking elsewhere in Liphook ( not the Anchor) The place is apparently filthy, both inside and out,it wont be long till its closed by the police,as apparently people are wandering in at out in the early hours of the morning! its an accident waiting to happen!!

I work @ Reeds Hair and Beauty and near enough every day we are collecting empty glasses or sweeping up broken bottles and glasses outside the salon. Presumably from the green dragon!

There used to be a cheering real fire in the Lounge Bar but on the last few occasions I have used this pub no fire and sod all atmosphere. Liphook needs a village centre pub.

Hu Paul, l''m, afraid your "Gentleman's club " atmosphere has been totally ruined, the juke box has been moved to the other side and apparently the pool table is to follow. All the hard work done since the refurb has been in vain. The reputation of the pub has nosedived in the last 3 weeks, it will take a long time for the pub to recover from this as bad reputations are very hard to lose..... watch this space!

The same thing happens every time a new owner/manager takes a pub over and that is all the people that are barred get allowed back in, im sure most of you dont no that on the land lord of the anchors birthday a couple of years ago he unbarred every body that he had barred but none of you new that, did you?
the new landlady is much much nicer then the old one and doesnt refer to people who drink in the anchor as "anchor wan$$$S". the dragon has not had a good rep in the last few yrs and is not what i would call a family type pub, its a pub pub! more what people call spit a sawdust, its a place where people go to drink.
maybe staying open late isnt always a good idea but once again she is new and as such there have been no problems and when there are then im sure she will do something about it.
i drink in the dragon and i drink in there at the wknds mainly and for the people that say there are underage drinkers in there then i think you mayb wrong? have you asked these so called underagers for id yourself or are you mearly speculating and going on hearsay??
if you want a family pub go to the anchor! if you want a family place then go to the club! if you wanna mortgage to buy a pint go to the links. its simple, if you dont like it then dont go there but dont try and make out like that it has had a saintly rep for the last few yrs when quite clearly it hasnt.

Well said robbie also if people have concerns why do they not go and talk to the landlady instead of posting it on here ?

Re: green dragon
- Helen (25th Oct 2010 - 01:06:44)

Just have to say, I've been going to the dragon for MANY years... The new landlady is a breath of fresh air, after the previous one, whom I personally saw belittle a very nice lady asking if they did food... (she was looked up and down like dirt and just got a very rude "no" - not, "sorry, no, but you could try..." etc) PLEASE give her a chance, she hasn't been there long, and I've been in with my 3 year old, and was made to feel extremely welcome. Also to Linda, we know that you're the ex landlady's friend, but I never saw you in there previously, so how could you know?? (and the pool table/jukebox have only been moved back to where they were originally - chill out) Finally, well said Robbie and 'K' (not Karen I take it)!!!

Re: green dragon
- linda (25th Oct 2010 - 10:46:56)

so wot if friends with karen, lots of people treatd her as a friend when suitd, least not 2 faced like many. no not been in myself, but have only written wot been told,by regulars who all drink at deers hut lunchtimes, like refugee camp! harold is happy,so r others and i wil go in and see 4 myself, when i wish 2,maybe this wk,i dont no. other comments been very damnin its a free country and peolpe are entitled to their own views and SHOULD NOT be judged for them!

Re: green dragon
- Phil (25th Oct 2010 - 17:57:23)

Sorry Linda, are you even of legal drinking age? You write like a 12 year old.

Re: green dragon
- linda (26th Oct 2010 - 18:31:30)

think its called text talk! quicker to write, sorry if you did not understand the language, obviously too young. now please stop harassing me and go back to the pub.

Don't you think this bitching backwards and forwards is all very childish and will give this website a bad name. Let's stick to the subject (which I think has been exhausted now) and start acting like the adults we're supposed to be. No wonder the youth of today turn out like they do with this kind of role-modelling.

Re: green dragon
- linda (27th Oct 2010 - 10:19:59)

fully agree with anne, this is a local web site and should be used for local news, not making personal comments

Re: green dragon
- Gina G (27th Oct 2010 - 14:24:12)

If you don't like it don't drink there.
Simple.
It's a drinkers pub and always has been, previous landlady may have improved the 'ambience' in her 'gentlemans room' but she also alienated all the locals and segregated the sides of the pub ; Only allowing certain people in the 'other' side. Hence the fact the number of customers plummeted. Welcome back to the good old dragon!
I guess its up to EHDC to decide if the new landlady is running the pub by the conditions of her licence, if not she'll loose it.
Mine's a double ;)

Re: green dragon
- Lou B (28th Oct 2010 - 13:46:06)

personally i think the new landlady seemed really nice on the 4 occasions i have been in there since she took over. The dragon has gone back to how it used to be, full of people having a drink and being sociable. People always need time to settle in and get to know the village and who's who so only time will tell.

Re: green dragon
- Bruce (3rd Dec 2010 - 08:16:31)

I've been in 4 times since it was taken over by the new landlady a couple of months ago and the decline has been alarming, even considering that it wasn't great to start with. The average age of the clientele is now early twenties and most of them are so drunk they can barely talk - and when they do it's a string if expletives and aggression. It feels like a bomb waiting to explode. I won't be going back.

Re: green dragon
- hm (3rd Dec 2010 - 23:49:23)

i agree bruce, the dragon would be a lovely place to go if only it was run by decent people. the last landlady let the place down & the new one is even worse,. like you i have only been in 3 or 4 times. but she allowa swearing etc, i could never take children in like we used to be able. i've been using the dragon for a good few years now. but i haven't been a regular for the last 3 years... this pub needs a family to run it, not single women who like to drink the profits!!!

Re: green dragon
- Mark (5th Dec 2010 - 00:24:53)

With you on that Bruce. They may have a lot of punters in there but it has got a thumbs down from me and lots of others now.
Spotted 2 police cars outside it tonight at chucking out time. One word, class!

Re: green dragon
- james (15th Dec 2010 - 13:06:22)

the pub is going down hill and fast as you all say was a nice
place to drink and would be good to see the landlady working
once and a while to much left to the staff me thinks.
mind you when your only a glorefied barmaid i sapose its hard oh well bring on the next one a

Re: green dragon
- carla (15th Dec 2010 - 18:42:44)

I have been in the Dragon on about 10 occasions since the change of landlady - always courteous welcome, always a smile.

I do agree that the loss of the log fire is sad!
