Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- claire (15th Oct 2010 - 20:47:42)

Does anyone have a problem with vehicles being parked out the front of the flats built on the old liphook garage site?? Have seen so many near crashes, accident waiting to happen!!

Re: Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- Dawn Hoskins (16th Oct 2010 - 11:59:36)

Agree.
Total disaster waiting to happen.

Should have double yellows approaching the junction to prevent it. Very Dangerous - especially when the cars approaching from the other direction are going so fast.

However, totally predictable.
We could all see when the planning decision was made that the parking provision for the residents and their visitors was inadequate. It is just another example of non 'joined - up' thinking. When I wonder will 'highways' ever work alongside the planning department to prevent this sort of thing?

- Sue (17th Oct 2010 - 08:33:41)

Dont understand why the yellow lines were removed - they were always there in front of the Garage. Perhaps they should have been re-done?

It will change once the roundabout is completed.

I drive past here every evening, well below the speed limit towards the village centre, and 9 times out of 10 either have to radically slow down or even stop for oncomming vehicles - often, if there is more than one, the following drivers seem to think that giving way is not part of The Highway Code and barge on through - Ah... The Me First Society is alive and well ...

Re: Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- Tina (17th Oct 2010 - 17:01:38)

Its a nightmare with all the cars parked there, especially if you are trying to pull out of your drive on the Portsmouth Road, its not helped by other people parking outside whichever home they fancy to go to the station for the day therefore blocking the view even more. I think people think it slows the traffic down but it doesn't they all speed up even more to beat the car coming the other way. The double yellow lines should still be there. The car park behind the flats is normally pretty empty just pure laziness that seems to be part of the UK these days!!.
Can't wait for the first head on collision.

My son lives in one of the flats and he can confirm that some of the parked cars are neither residents or visitors!! Commuters perhaps?

Re: Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- rita whitlock (19th Oct 2010 - 21:30:48)

I walk past there every morning to work and so many cars have to slam on their brakes. A few weeks a go a lorry only just stopped in time.

Double yellow lines should be in place.

I took a look today at the residents car park at the back and there were a quite a few car park bays empty.

Who ever the cars parked on the road belong to are going to be moaning when their wing mirrors will be damaged!

Re: Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- claire (20th Oct 2010 - 10:38:02)

a large white van has been parked near the junction for the past few days adding to the problem, you just can't see traffic approaching from the village.

Wouldnt think this belongs to a commuter.

Re: Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- rita whitlock (20th Oct 2010 - 17:28:18)

yes I have also seen that van there too. there were quite a few cars parked along the flats again this morning when I was walking to work at 7.50. I walked back at 4.45 and just the one car was there.
I also agree that the van is not a commuter

Re: Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- sam (26th Oct 2010 - 23:11:21)

Yes I agree, the cars along the old A3 (Portsmouth road) are ridiculous. Yes I have to agree that white van is frequently parked on the road and that it really creates an obstruction for traffic travelling down the road. A number of people I know have said that it really makes parking difficult when they come home and when they are trying to park in their drives, as they cannot see the oncoming traffic easily at all because it restricts their view of the road. I too have witnessed a few near miss accidents, as cars have to wait behind the van, and they unable to see what is coming and so they have to edge out.

The cars parked by the new flats on the Station Road junction have also increased, and they are parked to close to the junction. I think they should put double yellow lines along the road, from the station road junction up to the church centre junction as it would give people a much wider view of the road, failing that maybe they could put some restrictive parking measures in place instead?

I was actually sent a letter from the highways about keeping my hedges cut, the day after they were cut like they are every year. So i wrote back saying they had a cheek when the pavement up station road to the village centre is covered in glass and over hanging trees and hedges and not forgetting the piles of stinging nettles that my daughter keeps being attacked by and the fact they let cars park outside those flats making the junction dangerous. yet that was 3 months ago and guess what they never replied.

Nearly had an accident last night at this junction. Something has to be done, it wouldn't be so bad if the cars heading up from Petersfield direction weren't travelling so fast. Last night the car approaching me was taking no prisoners, he didn't slow down so I had to speed up to pass the cars and then you find you are travelling far to fast to turn into Station Road. When I learnt to drive I am sure there was something in the Highway Code about not parking x no of metres from a junction. Better make sure they have shifted the cars before Carnival tonight (add that job to my list of things to do today!)

Re: Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- Ed (29th Oct 2010 - 12:05:33)

Could I suggest that most of the problem is caused by the fact that women have difficulty judging the speed of oncoming vehicles, and the available gap, so don't realise when there is room for 3 abreast. This is borne out by the fact that 90% of these messages are from women!

above is not from the editor - I have to say that even I (as a man) would not try and pass those vehicles at the same time as an oncoming one. Maybe 'Ed' only drives a very narrow car?

- barbara (29th Oct 2010 - 13:12:31)

What a sexist comment! You cannot link comments on here with driving standards for either sex. One of the fairground lorries drove me onto the pavement in Midhurst road after he come past a roundabout, room for three vehicles? Tosh.

Ed

Do you have small car syndrome?

Re: Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- Ed (29th Oct 2010 - 18:53:50)

No Liz, I have got a big one.

There was an accident there this morning, a car clipped a man on his motorbike, thank goodness we were having a flu clinic at the doctors surgery as we could send a doctor down there, and the ambulance took 30 minutes to turn up...... now theres another subject. Yes people do drive like loonies along there.

Does anyone know the outcome of the motocyclist that was involved in an acccident this am with a Tesco delivery van? - Right where these post have expressed concerns

Re: Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- A (31st Oct 2010 - 11:42:21)

I agree with the comments above, apart from Ed on his tiny "Chopper", but have a look at the junction of Tower Road and Headley Road during school times if you really want to see how stupid people are parking with a complete disregard for the Highway Code !

Re: Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- Beth (2nd Nov 2010 - 17:56:52)

An update. The motorcyclist(heading southbound) was in collision with a car emerging from Station Road. The Tesco van was not involved. Fortunately a first aider was the first on the scene, and co-ordinated with the police and ambulance service (the first ambulance on the scene was unable to administer morphine) and also with the Doctor when he arrived. The victim has been in touch with his helper since, to inform her he has suffered a broken leg in two places.

Fortunate, as it could have been so much worse.

Re: Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- Karen F (2nd Nov 2010 - 18:22:04)

Oh thank goodness. I hope we don't have to go through another accident before anything is done about this situation. I have noticed today that the cars are parking further back up the road, but it still means visibility is poor and you still need to cross onto the other side of the road to pass them and drivers are still speeding on their way up from Petersfield direction.

- Sue (2nd Nov 2010 - 19:58:09)

The 'eye witness' was not v. good. It was not a Tesco Van.

Re: Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- liz (3rd Nov 2010 - 10:29:12)

How will this junction cope, even if the planned roundabout is built, when 600+ people come from out of area to attend services at the proposed 'Exclusive Bretheren' hall?

Re: Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- Jay (3rd Nov 2010 - 22:39:00)

Does Ed live at the flats or own the large white van perhaps?! Thank goodness the occupiers of the properties on the other side of the junction don't feel the need to park on their side of the Portsmouth Road. Is it not within the powers of the police to have a little trip around the village and remind these drivers of the Highway Code? Top of Tunbridge Crescent/Headley Road would be another good spot and the cars that regularly park in Tower Road directly opposite the junction with The Mead. I am so tempted to put photocopies of relevant Highway Code pages under the windscreens .... hmmm, think maybe I need to get a life!

Not seen any figures about numbers of people attending football matches either? General games may not attract big numbers. On league competitions how many should people expect to see 50+ 100+ 200+ visitors?

Re: Portsmouth Rd Junction with Station Road Liphook
- Bob (4th Nov 2010 - 12:43:27)

If you think the traffic will be bad with the sports facilities planned then if the gospel hall has the go ahead you can look forward to 300 visitors at least once a week and 650 annually.

Please email to complain about this application as it will serve no purpose for the village will creat significant traffic issues and destory a small but significant part of the national park.
