Parish Plan project
- Editor (14th Oct 2010 - 08:46:00)
From the Parish Council
"Do you want to have more control over what happens in the village? Could you help in the plan for our future and then work with others to get it done? If you do, then you need to be at the Liphook Millennium Hall at 8.00pm on Thursday 28 October to help get the Parish Plan project underway.
Following on from the Parish Survey and the enabling work undertaken by the Parish Plan Working Group of the Parish Council, a community led Steering Group needs to be appointed. Members of the local community are invited to join members of the Parish Council, Officers from East Hampshire District Council, and representatives from Community Action Hampshire at the Parish Council led public event to launch the Parish Plan. At the event, there will be explanations and guidance given on Parish Plans with examples of plans put together by other Parishes to set the scene.
The intention is that a Parish Plan should be a Community led exercise and that the Parish Council is not expected to have a role and certainly not a major role. However, in Bramshott and Liphook, the Parish Council is willing to play the role of facilitator initially, in order to get the project underway.
“We desperately need to set up a Steering Group to start moving this important project forward” said John Tough, Chairman of the Parish Plan Working Group”. “We need members of the local community to get involved and help develop our Parish Plan to create a shared vision for the community”. “It is going to be a large project and we need people from the business community, parents, sportspeople, young people, elderly people, teachers, carers, schools, surgeries, local societies, churches etc to join in” he added.
Over the years the government has wanted local communities to have more control of their own lives, to say what they want doing in their own community or parish and to work with other organisations to get it done. Parish Plans are the result. These have given an opportunity for everyone in the community to make themselves heard. They provide a way for them to say if they want more open spaces, more effective public transport, affordable housing, better access to health care, a chance to buy local produce at local shops and to choose how your community helps everyone in it to relax and make the most of their social and leisure time. Many communities in East Hampshire have already developed Parish Plans and these are playing an important role in their local planning process, showing that Community Led Planning does work and benefits the local community.
