Dead cat found on the side of Haslemere road. Brown/black hair, stripped with two back white feet. according to neighbours it's been here over a day.

Hit by car yesterday at 17.30, driver and passer by stayed with cat which was motionless. Driver was very distressed and residents around were aware of incident.

Hello, whereabouts on Haslemere Road is this poor cat? We haven't seen our lovely tabby today and your description sounds worryingly like him so please could let me know where this one is? Thank you

Very sadly this was our lovely boy, Woody. Thank you very much to the kind gentleman who had laid a towel over him. I'm not sure if you were the one who kindly posted about it on here or not but thanks to being made aware by the post we were able to go out looking for him. And thank you for the information Dave. You said that residents were aware but obviously we didn't know anything about it. We are only a couple of doors down and on the other side to where it happened so it would have been nice if the driver had knocked on a few doors so we would have been able to lay our lovely cat to rest rather than now knowing he had been on the side of the road for a day. Thankfully from your information though it seems it was instant and therefore he wouldn't have been in any pain. He does look very peaceful now, just like he's sleeping.
I know it's the risk you take having cats and living on a busy road and I'm sure the driver in this case was sticking to the speed limit but please remember, to those who don't, slow down on our roads or it could be you having to tell your children, on Father's Day or any other day, that your beloved family pet has died.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat Sam. I thought you might also like to know that a man and his son that had also come across your cat late last night and were knocking on many doors around the beginning of the Maltings hoping to find the owner or someone that might know who's it was. A very sad day for you, but nice to know that people were concerned and going out of their way to try and find you x

Thank you very much for your kind words Resident, Barnaby and Jayne and also for letting us know about the nice man who was knocking on doors. It is indeed comforting to know there are some caring and considerate people out there.
I'd like to use this opportunity to publicly thank Phill at Small World Vet Centre on Station Road. He met me at the surgery on Sunday morning so he could keep Woody safe while arrangements are being made for his cremation. Phill's kindness, compassion and professionalism made the whole ordeal just that little bit easier. I can't recommend him and his team highly enough, they are wonderful.
