Another sophisticated nuisance call - beware
- Finchie (17th May 2017 - 15:51:39)
Folks,
Just taken a call. The usual "your computer is sending error messages to our server". I regularly wind them up and waste their time as I have them on speaker while doing something productive.
They always assume you have Windows. At least 10 minutes describing my computer. I think its a banana, no no pear. Eventually he guessed right - an Apple ! Mark from somewhere in India got so frustrated he passed me onto his manager "Brian Stone". I suspect he was the guy who knows about Macs. After lots of discussion and pulling him into to thinking I really didn't know a jot about computers, I managed to get a call back number - and was reconnected to Brian !! That is a first. They normally put the phone down when I ask for a call-back number.
Any cyber detectives out there, this is the info I got.
Call back number: 0208 144 3455, and they claim it is 14 Hanover Square. Seems to be a nuisance number when you search.
The website they were sending me to - which I guess I would have had to download a "fix", you know that bit of software to hide files and then hold me to ransom.
www.teamviewer.com
Anyone (Editor maybe) able to see who registered that domain and report them to the cyber police ?!!
Anyone know where I should officially report this to ?
I know it's been months (a year), but thought I'd share the shenanigans.
Anyone know where I can get some Japanese knives from and Swiss Pots and Pans ?
Cheers, Finchie

I too use team viewer, it is a useful resource, where in my case I allow ( With the one time ID no ) a German manufacturer to interrogate and reconfigure big industrial drives usually via my phone as a hotspot
it does however give fairly free access to your machine so the less scrupulous may be able to cause mischief
the overriding thing is though, you have to allow them in they can not do this without your input
Beware
