VILLAGE
- Wendy (3rd May 2017 - 18:20:16)

The village was awful with traffic at 5.40 today. Why do idiot drivers block the roundabouts, the one at the top of Longmoor Road and the one by the old Liphook garage in particular, it stops the flow of traffic. An erratic driver, who was obviously angry shot out of Midhurst Road and nearly bumped into me. Rant over!

Re: VILLAGE
- Jayne (3rd May 2017 - 18:50:39)

Agree totally.

Driving standards in Liphook are appalling and well-documented. I have lost count of the number of times a vehicle has crossed the white lines onto the wrong side of the road between the railway bridge and the Berg estate because they are too stupid to slow down. Often Land Rover Discovery-s needless to say.

We could with speed watchers here and outside Bohunt School for pedestrian safety.

Re: VILLAGE
- Jaybee (3rd May 2017 - 20:06:44)

In 2011 the Parish council purchased a "Flashing Speed Sign" with the intention that it could be placed at various points in the village to deter speeding. For a couple of months it was in Midhurst Road then it moved to Passfield then it disappeared never to be seen again.

Despite asking Council Members about the whereabouts of the sign I got no answer. More of our money wasted

Perhaps the powers that be, on reading this post will come up with an answer and a solution

Re: VILLAGE
- fed up (5th May 2017 - 11:10:20)

Yes i agree behaviour particularly at the roundabouts is appalling - Thursday night 4th whilst trying to turn right out of Portsmouth road - whilst vehicle turning left in to Portsmouth road - about the only chance you get - nearly taken out by large black car shot out of square from by the crossing -sure didn't even look to the right - didn't like it when I pipped my horn - Please remember mini roundabout should be treated like any other roundabout - Forcing your way on to it, is not safe practice just because you are a larger car - with a driver that thinks the rules of the road don't apply to them! YES I AGREE VEHICLES STUCK ACROSS A ROUNDABOUT & STOPPING THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC ARE JUST SELFISH -

Re: VILLAGE
- Dawn Hoskins (5th May 2017 - 12:14:03)

Jaybee, I am sure I answered the point about the flashing. local thieves kept, repeatedly, stealing the battery pack every time the sign was put up. When you wrote to the Parish Council what did they put in their response?

Re: VILLAGE

Agree with all the posts on this subject.
For those who can remember the London Road, Square and Portsmouth Road before the bypass it looks like we're back to those days each morning and evening on week days.
Perhaps the road access to and through the square should be traffic light controlled rather than mini roundabouts.
We also need more traffic calming to slow some of these idiot drivers down.

Re: VILLAGE
- Wendy (5th May 2017 - 15:41:55)

Totally agree with you Steve. I also think speed humps would be a good ideal along the Midhurst Road over the railway bridge, where the cottages are, vehicles come whizzing along there driving over the white lines.

Re: VILLAGE
- liz (5th May 2017 - 16:22:17)

I don't wish to excuse bad driving but if the planners had done some actual planning and not allowed quite so many new homes to be built -at least until a sustainable village plan was in place - the situation would not be quite so bad.

Let's hope the new people moving to Bordon do not want to come to Liphook for the supermarket/school/train etc. or we will have gridlock. It is astonishing - an eco town that you can only get to by car!

Re: VILLAGE
- Jonathan (5th May 2017 - 19:05:31)

Whilst crossing with our 11-week old baby in a pram on the pelican crossing today, my wife and I were shocked by a lady coming off The Square rather more quickly than she should onto the Portsmouth Road - fortunately she stopped for the red light in time (we were already on the crossing) despite being on her mobile phone!

I hope she was suitably embarrassed by me stopping in the road and making a phone gesture at her while mouthing "get off your phone". She certainly put it down quickly enough!

Re: VILLAGE
- lac (6th May 2017 - 00:50:48)

dont forget before the A3 bypass was built it was easy to cross the road between the stationary cars. Back to the future!

Re: VILLAGE
- Della (6th May 2017 - 08:53:07)

Jayne i I drive a range rover discovery and take my children to school every morning , I indicate , give way and drive courteously please don't judge people on the cars they drive

Re: VILLAGE
- helen m (6th May 2017 - 17:49:38)

Couldnt agree more. Whilst waiting at the roundabout coming from London Road, crossing to Longmoor Rd, 2 builders trucks were coming across the roundabout from Longmoor to turn down Portsmouth road. Unfortunately the first truck blocked the roundabout and thought it was a great time to have a chat with the truck behind them still waiting to go round the roundabout, when he moved forward (but still no room for anyone else to turn down Portsmouth road), the second truck decided to go across the roundabout , blocking it too! Just as I was entering making me do an emergency stop. the car behind me beeped and the truck passenger decided to lean out and shout expletives at me whilst laughing his head off.

Well done RFF LANDSCAPES, shouting F bombs at a car full of children... be proud of yourselves.

Re: VILLAGE
- Dave Wilson (7th May 2017 - 01:36:39)

Maybe they need to add a U to the RFF their name.
But not as bad as the muppet builders that dropped all the loose stones in the square this week.

Re: VILLAGE
- Rob (7th May 2017 - 13:38:31)

Whoever dropped the stones and cement all over the road on the Longmoor road roundabout should be ashamed of themselves. Its a disgraceful and dangerous act to drop all of that all over the road and drive off without doing anything about it. Name and shame if anyone knows who did it.

Re: VILLAGE
- Ed (8th May 2017 - 10:00:55)

Most of these lunatic drivers are young women rushing about like headless chickens because they are late for their next appointment. When they learn that multi tasking is not just opening the fridge whilst the dishwasher is on, they might find more time to drive sensibly.

Re: VILLAGE
- Jonathan (8th May 2017 - 11:00:10)

How sexist and agesit!

The lady driving too fast on her mobile phone was older than 50, I see people of all varieties failing to indicate at all the roundabouts too!

Re: VILLAGE
- fed up (8th May 2017 - 12:02:27)

Sorry Ed - that wasn't called for - please do not generalise - Have seen many young , middle aged men just behaving as badly and yet I agree some women - but not all women - we are not all air heads!! In fact in recent research women drivers were deemed to be more sensible ( I think that was an Insurance company Survey though )
But I do agree with your point about people not leaving enough time to get to there destination - is it that possibly why they are quite often on the phone like idiots at the same time

Re: VILLAGE
- Anon (8th May 2017 - 13:38:57)

Just stand at one of the roundabouts between 8.15 and 9 and 3.15 to 4. You will be absolutely horrified at the number of Mums on their mobiles either chatting or texting whilst driving. This may be a sexist generalisation but it is A FACT!

Re: VILLAGE
- helen m (11th May 2017 - 21:09:16)

What a sweeping generalisation! Most of the people I see on their phones are men; usually white van drivers or older gentlemen who should know better. It only takes one second of taking your eye off the ball and a child or pedestrian is killed. It doesn't matter what sex you are - don't use your phone whilst driving.

Re: VILLAGE
- Kp (11th May 2017 - 23:13:47)

....and stand at the same roundabouts between 7.30-8.30 am and 5-6.30pm and there are loads of all sorts of people using their phones.... mum's, dads, businesspeople, vans, cars ...... different people at different times of the day. Unfortunately it's everywhere

Re: VILLAGE
- Haha (12th May 2017 - 01:44:51)

'What a sweeping generalisation' whines Helen, before making one herself.

This forum, and the complete lack of self awareness shown by users of it, is really quite wonderful. The people of Liphook never cease to amaze - truly, we are beyond parody. Keep it up everyone, I need a good laugh every now and again.

Re: VILLAGE
- liz (12th May 2017 - 10:13:04)

Haha

We in Liphook may be many things, but we try not to be supercilious.
