Rise in burglaries in Liphook
- RH (12th Apr 2017 - 09:41:07)

In the last 4 weeks there have been 2 burglaries and one attempted burglary in Liphook. That's just the ones mentioned on here.
Is this normal? We have been living here for 8 months and it seems an extremely high rate to us. We would be interested in your thoughts.

I have lived here for a little over 10 years and not known anything like it before. But then it could be that they were not publicly reported as much.

It is very worrying and I have to admit I'm quite concerned. Perhaps time to invest in an alarm system.

had a look online at the data available, does not appear to be any better or worse than in previous years. Perhaps social media and the internet is just making us more aware nowadays

No longer a rural village, expect town / suburban burglary levels.
Police overstretched.

We have cameras and an alarm system , it is just a sign of the times that we have to invest money Which I would far rather spend on other things on security.

I think no visible police presence does make a difference to the risks criminals will take.

What police?!

Hi how are you analysing those figures ? Where are they from? There always has been a lot of theft in the more rural areas one man and a big van can hit a lot of sheds and outhouses without anyone thinking he is more than a delivery driver or gardener. I saw a trailer go past with 3 used mowers on board who knows what is going on?
all most people seem to do is put on a high viz jacket and carrry a clipboard no one questions if they are legit or not.
And don't get me started on the online fraud or phone scammers I have had 5 attempts so far this week! These kinds of crimes are not recorded by the police.

For a couple of weeks now there has been a long wheel base oldish white van that seeens to be driving around checking out houses around the Mead / Tunbridge Close / Paddock Way area. They were here again this Monday morning. When I came out to ask why they were checking out my property they drove off. The driver was a Middle aged white man with a fag and a younger man with hoody and their van has a charity sticker on the passenger side rear panel. Probably innocent but they do look suspicious.

Chap driving was parked in Tunbridge crescent smoking and on phone . Had northern twang to his voice I think . Not tall but well built ... Will keep eye out

Our shed was broken into last night. We disturbed the perpetrators as we were walking home. My husband recognised his electric drill abandoned on the ground, and we heard people leaving, but we didn't hear a vehicle. Quite creepy really.I'm just so glad that we didn't bump into them. When we got to our house, the gate had been forced and the lock had been broken on the shed. They had taken the compressor, the power washer and strimmer.
Police are informed.

Just a warning - keep an eye on sheds and garages. Another garage broken into this month and two bikes stolen - mentioned on another post.

Worth remembering that the gypsies have been in the area again, always more burglaries than normal when they're around

ANON - YOU VILE RACIST PIG! (and I suspect I know who you are?)

Editor, If someone posted the same sweeping generalisation against Jews, Eastern Europeans, or any other group would you have allowed the post to appear?

For the record I am not a member of the PC brigade and am certainly uncomfortable with many of the odd planning rules that seem to unfairly protect the travelling community on many issues but this type of post inferring all travellers as thieves is wrong
