Just had a notification from eagle radio saying reports of an air ambulance landed in a liphook.. something to do with that, perhaps? I hope everyone is okay.

Motorbike crash. Apparently the Guy is injured but conscious. Wish all injured people well

Re: Portsmouth Road
- Andy (4th Apr 2017 - 21:13:25)

Hampshire air ambulance landed in the Rec at about 20:50 in front of me. Seems to have been a serious incident on the Portsmouth road somewhere between the center of the village and station road.

The helicopter is still there 21:12 and its destination is Southampton hospital which they say takes about 12-15 mins.

Best stay out of their way and let them crack on with the excellent job they are doing. Hopefully its not a serious thing for those involved.

Re: Portsmouth Road

Car vs motorbike outside the turning to the church centre. On the Portsmouth road.
The guy on the bike is going to be okay, he has a few very badly broken bones.

Drink driver named on eagle radio website

Re: Portsmouth Road
- Resident (5th Apr 2017 - 14:19:01)

Heard on eagle radio it was a drink driver that hit the motorbike. A local man that lives in Portsmouth road who only recently got his license back. He has been banned twice before.

Re: Portsmouth Road
- Ann (5th Apr 2017 - 15:12:35)

If that is the case the car driver should be banned for life for driving.

Re: Portsmouth Road
- Rachel (5th Apr 2017 - 16:53:51)

Never mind just banning him, he should go to prison!

Re: Portsmouth Road
- S (5th Apr 2017 - 18:11:37)

Not just banned for life locked up for a good few years the idiot could of killed anyone's mum dad or children hope he gets the worst that he can and suffers for it

Re: Portsmouth Road
- RS (5th Apr 2017 - 20:50:40)

He only got his license back after a 3 year ban about 12 months ago. He was caught over the limit going to pick his son up from a friends. He will probably go to prison. He's obviously not learnt his lesson.

Re: Portsmouth Road
- andrew e (5th Apr 2017 - 21:54:04)

The person you are all talking about is my friend ... yes he is wrong but get
off your bloody high horses ... i have been down links.. anchor and dragon and seen lots of you drink and drive and get away with it .... leave him alone he will pay a high price and does not need your rubbish to make it worse ...if you have a problem with that happy to chat to anyone but not on here you faceless people..

andrew

Re: Portsmouth Road
- sarah (6th Apr 2017 - 00:28:03)

I am afraid that I think you are completely in the wrong - if he was your friend you should have done more to persuade him to change his ways!

I think that the village has a right to be on their high horses as this poor motorcyclist has been badly injured and is lucky to have not lost his life! In fact anyone out on the road that evening is lucky they weren't involved.

I am a great believer in innocent until proven guilty and I hope for your friend's sake he wasn't over the limit. To loose your license once for drink driving is shocking but to then allegedly be caught again is unforgivable!

Re: Portsmouth Road
- Amy (6th Apr 2017 - 01:39:38)

Andrew, are you seriousky defending someone who could have killed a young man due to his own selfishness? I walk with a buggy along that road, what if he'd hit me and my baby crossing it? It's not just the fact that he is "wrong" but that he's done it before and not learnt his lesson. No one is on their "high horse" here - they are all genuinely concerned that someone could have killed an innocent person through reckless behaviour. He should pay a high price for what he has done, especially as it's not the first time.
And for the record, I, like probably everyone else here, have never got behind the wheel of a car over the limit.

Re: Portsmouth Road
- a (6th Apr 2017 - 07:24:46)

No not defending what has happened and most of all i hope the lad on motor bike is ok and gets better as soon as...my point is lots of you do the same but just not been caught or are you some of the mums i have seen driving through the square taking kids to school on your phones.. as for trying to make friend change his ways ... well its a choice he made and a price will be paid but i hope all people involved will be ok ..

Re: Portsmouth Road
- Mike B (6th Apr 2017 - 07:25:32)

While I don't condone drink driving, I am also shocked that everyone has jumped to conclusions without knowing all the facts about the accident. For all you know, it may have happened whether the driver was over the limit or not. What if the motorbike was driving down the middle of the road at high speed with no lights on?

Let the courts decide his punishment after analysing all of the facts for goodness sake!

Re: Portsmouth Road
- Ian (6th Apr 2017 - 07:51:29)

Andrew, apologists like you are almost as bad as drunken drivers. Too many idiots think it's acceptable to drink and drive and scum like this particular idiot should go to jail. You perhaps need to see the bodies of those killed each year through the evil actions of those that choose to get behind the wheel after a few drinks.

Re: Portsmouth Road
- Helen (6th Apr 2017 - 09:10:43)

By all accounts he was drunk. Perhaps your drinking pal should re imburse the costs involved in using the air ambulance emergency services etc disruption to other road users and small businesses. If he is successfully prosecuted I hope that legal aid is denied to him. Perhaps if there is jail time then the money he saves through not propping up the bar in the local pub can be given to his victim who has the prospect of a long period without health and possibly without income.

Re: Portsmouth Road
- -- (6th Apr 2017 - 09:24:47)

Knowing the family of the driver personally, this is as horrendous to deal with for them as it is for the family of the man who was on the motorbike. Yes, the drivers actions were completely and utterly wrong, there is no denying that - and he knows it! I know everybody wishes the motorbike rider a full and speedy recovery, but I can't help thinking of the impact this is going to have on the drivers family and their futures. A silly action carried out by a genuinely stand-up guy, well liked by many in the area. My thoughts are with him and his family as much as they are with the rider and theirs. When something like this happens to someone you know it's hard to process. This may have happened to involved him on this occasion, but the number of times I've seen people leave the Anchor and the Dragon after being there all evening drinking just jump in their car - with their children too, in some instances - is ridiculous. Drink driving in this area needs sorting out, I've lost 2 friends in recent years due to this so this issue is close to my heart. Many people locally are guilty of a couple of pints and then driving home, I've seen it with my own eyes, so really this situation could have happened to any of them. Keep your judgements and gossiping to yourself, the situation will be dealt with by those with the authority to do so.

Re: Portsmouth Road
- b (6th Apr 2017 - 09:36:14)

lock him up ..... throw away the key..... disgusting ....... will prob get legal aid and be out in a few years......

Re: Portsmouth Road
- A (6th Apr 2017 - 09:41:15)

I sat with the motorbike driver until help came and I can't believe people are defending the actions of the drunk driver. Never had anytime for people who did it before but now it's a whole new level! Poor guy was terrified and in a right state

And no most people haven't got into a car drunk but most do drive with phones glued to their ear. I've had cars mount the pavement in the mornings when I'm walking my son to nursery..a couple barely missed us.

Sadly a bad accident on this road has been a long time coming though, so many people drive like lunatics at night.

Re: Portsmouth Road
- Portsmouth road resident (6th Apr 2017 - 11:34:30)

There has been many accidents on this road 99% due to speed you only have to stand on the pavement and watch the driver wizz past the calming measures are useless seen cars overtake through them

The road needs slowing down once and for all

NO parking opposite entrances as happens Before long with extra houses along the road someone will lose their life the junction at the church centre with parked cars one side and overground hedges plus speeding cars it's only going to get worse

Get caught drink driving pay the price simple

Re: Portsmouth Road
- km (6th Apr 2017 - 12:48:19)

My husband & I support Hampshire & Isle of Wight air ambulance - only sorry it has had to be used in Liphook in such circumstances - They do a brilliant job.

My thoughts go out to all involved & affected by this incident - For the victim I wish him a speedy recovery & hopefully no long term consequences I include the family of the car driver in my wishes - it's not their fault he was stupid - so please don't take it out on them!

But please drivers be more careful that very night probably about 10 - 10.30 had a driver doing a 3 point turn to get round the mini roundabout by the old Anchor Garage nearly caused a further accident with another car
DON'T DRINK & DRIVE

& yes I agree with the comments about the UNACCEPTABLE USE OF MOBILE PHONES WHILST DRIVING IN THE VILLAGE OR ANYWHERE FOR THAT MATTER sorry it's dangerous!

Re: Portsmouth Road
- D (6th Apr 2017 - 13:22:45)

I'm not part of the pub crowd, I very rarely drink and have NEVER drunk and driven. I know the driver of the car very well and consider him my FRIEND and always will.

What he has done is completely and utterly indefensible he has brought shame on himself and his lovely family.

HOWEVER, the man concerned is one of the nicest kindest most decent people of have ever met, a well known and well liked member of our community. He has made a few mistakes in his life with this being by far the worst, and he will be punished.

Please remember his wife & children will no doubt be reading these comments about their husband / dad which will be absolutely devastating for them.

Hes a good man that has made a terrible mistake.

Re: Portsmouth Road
- T (6th Apr 2017 - 13:44:48)

The driver looked OK, when I saw him in the pub at lunchtime the next day!

Re: Portsmouth Road
- andrew (6th Apr 2017 - 14:16:38)

Ian, i do not at all think this was a good or right thing to do my point is all leave him alone to be sorted by courts ... do not need people like you to pass judgement .. not one person would say this ok but lots would say leave it alone.....

Re: Portsmouth Road
- h (6th Apr 2017 - 14:39:51)

Yes it is not nice for family and children to read comments but the name and address of the person has been published now so there is no going back from that. It is a shame he did not learn his lesson when his licence was taken away for a previous episode of drunk driving.

I do not use a mobile phone when driving, nor do I ever go over the limit when driving. None of my actions have ever led to such a tragedy.

Re: Portsmouth Road
- ian (6th Apr 2017 - 14:46:43)

Andrew, actually I think myself and others are entitled to pass judgement on this reckless individual who made a choice to endanger the lives of our friends, family and other residents of this village. Regardless of how nice this chap is does not excuse the fact that he could have killed someone by his stupid choice. I would emphasise this was a choice he made, not a mistake!

Re: Portsmouth Road
- Dave mcgrath (6th Apr 2017 - 14:53:37)

talk about kick a guy when he is down! In no way do I condone what Tom has done BUT it won't help him or his wife and kids by berating and condemning him in the way that some on here are doing. I am sure that he is well aware of the serious situation he is now in! Thank god the motorcyclist is going to recover and well done to the emergency services. I think that Tom and his family should be left alone to deal with what will now be a serious difficult time. The authorities will deal with the matter, we don't need kangaroo courts.that is my opinion.

Re: Portsmouth Road
- C j (6th Apr 2017 - 15:54:10)

I wonder if all of Toms mates would be so supportive if it was there son that he knocked into while drunk .i don't think so !!!!

Re: Portsmouth Road
- -A (6th Apr 2017 - 15:54:24)

I have worked in a couple pubs in Liphook and many times will see people leaving to drive home, almost certainly over the limit. It's not behaviour I condone, however it is very simple for so many of you to objectify the situation when all you have heard is rumours or press facts. Stand back and let those involved recover, both Tom, the driver and their families will be going through a lot at this time. Let those who have the authority over the situation decide, and hopefully this will provoke a change over driving in Liphook.
