Historical postcards of Liphook Petersfield area wanted
- Mary W (15th Sep 2010 - 11:12:43)
I've become very interested in the history of the local area and I wondered if anyone had any postcards of Liphook, Liss Petersfield etc, showing local towns and scenes as they used to be in days gone by. I'd be very interested to purchase one or two if they aren't too expensive.

If you click onto francis frith's website, I presume you can download and then print their historical images free of charge.

How kind you all are! I have seen quite a few of the photos and things like that, but I really wanted to acquire a few original cards for myself rather than copies. I don't really know where to start looking to begin a collection. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Fascinating ebay link above. Can anyone identify the location of the second postcard listed which is said to be in the Portsmouth Road?

I presume you mean the card of The Green Dragon Public House.

Regarding the e bay postcard captioned portsmouth road, it is in fact the green dragon p.h. in london road, with the building beyond at that time the liphook post office. The prices of cards on e bay give you a good idea of how expensive old postcards can be. There are dealers at the monthly markets at midhurst and farnham who stock old postcards - well worth a visit, but once again very expensive.

Thanks for the feedback. I had a look at the cards on Ebay, they are expensive, but when you think how much it is to buy some modern birthday cards, it gets it into perspective.
