Deer - Lowsley farm
- Rachel (8th Mar 2017 - 16:36:13)

Hi, My garden backs on to the fields of Lowsley farm.
For quite some time, there have been two female Deer very confused by the high fencing around the field nearest my house, and all the machinery cutting down the trees!

Last week they actually became trapped in the field, and slept the night huddled up against the high fence!

Yesterday my daughter literally stumbled upon the two Deer, who were laying down in the very small gap between two fields.
Before the contractors started blocking off all entrance to the field and cutting down all the trees, we had lots of Deer wandering through the field.

I am very concerned for the welfare of these two girls!
What can I do to help?

Just to add, when the Deer became trapped in the field, this was because the workmen had removed one of the fence panels the day before. They must have replaced it not knowing the Deer were in there!

Contact Hydestile Resident Animals run by Mr & Mrs Graham Cornick. They were wonderful when I contacted them about a wounded deer in my garden. I know they do not take in as many animals now but they will be able to give you some advice and help. 01483 860313, If you want to know more about them just Google them. Best of luck

Thanks for the advice.
I thought Hydestile had closed a long time ago, but I will try the number.

you could undo some of the fence to let them out then put it back after.

David have you seen the fence! It's about 7 foot tall and held together with solid metal clamps!
I would have moved it if I could. Apart from being so strong, I am just recovering from major bowel surgery!

The deer are now in the fields that run behind Lark Rise and The Avenue. They look healthy but obviously have nowhere to go. Before the contractors started there were three deer who were seen regularly in the fields.

I have tried to contact the builders but I don't think they are too bothered! I have also mentioned the state of the footpath now and I don't think they are bothered by that either.

Hopefully Taylor Wimpey will come and free them. Deer have lived around these parts a lot longer than Taylor Wimpey or their high fences having been introduced by William the Conqueror (admittedly to hunt them) and Liphook dates back to at least Norman times, so good luck to them!

I Phoned Taylor Wimpey today, and fingers crossed they are going to look in to it.
I have to say that I am terribly worried about the poor Deer and other wildlife that used to roam freely around the area :-(
