Silent Garden Broadband
- Ryan (12th Jan 2017 - 15:50:00)
Has anyone currently living in the new development installed fiber broadband?
I'm moving early next month to the site and BT and Sky seem to be very confused as to what sort of internet connection I should be able to receive. It would be great to know if any of you are there and using fiber already. I'm guessing though at this point, it's a case of waiting for more of the work to get done.

And whether it is fibre to the premises or fibre to the cabinet? The former is better

G, are you saying the new development was built and they didn't put Fibre To The Premises in? In this day and age that would put me right off.
I imagine that even ADSL2 performance is quite good though, as the exchange is close.

It took them months to even put phone lines in on the Maple Park development - I think the first people to move in were waiting over 6 months! And the connections use the old cabinet in Station Road which is only just in the process of being upgraded to FTTC at the moment - two years or so later...

When I phoned Sky, they told me that my new home has fibre to home and Sky are unable to help. I called BT who seemed to be completely at a loss as to what they could offer me. I decided to pick their basic broadband with a view to upgrade to fibre when BT know what's going on.
One weird thing though, at point of order BT made a point of telling me my estimated speed would be 8 Meg, but since the order I have emails from them stating it is 17 Meg.... I guess I'll just wait and see what happens!

Just ran some ADSL speed tests here in Silent Garden - about 18MB download and 1.3MB upload. Hope that helps :-)

Thanks J, mind telling me your provider?
I'm sure silent garden will get superfast speeds soon enough, 18 Meg would be fine for a little while :)

Hi,
I live in Silent Gardens and I work from home - Software Developer so broadband is important to me ;-)
Its Fibre to the cabinet and my download sync speed is 69.3 and up is 19.1
I am with BT just because it was the easiest option and I didn't want the hassle of Sky - no dishes allowed on the front of the house.
If you do go for BT don't forget to use Quidco - www.quidco.com/bt-broadband/... for a £100 cashback and BT are offering £125 reward card as well.
Oddly I am on Unlimited Infinity 1 which is up to 52Mb.
Hope this helps.
Mark

Thanks Mark. I went with Quidco, I was very pleased with myself that I remembered!
With you on fibre already, hopefully that will mean that i'll be able to upgrade to fibre very quickly.

Hi Lewis,
I have a good service from BT, I think it's about 50MB download. So, yes fiber is available. Though when you speak to your provider of choice, they maybe a bit confused as the addresses are all new.
Welcome to the neighborhood :)
