Priorities for new Councillors
- Freddie Dawkins (8th Apr 2003 - 16:20:59)

Hello all -

Now I'm a councillor-elect - can't believe only 12 people applied for 12 seats - I'll be involved officially from May 2.

But I've no idea yet how the new Council is going to reach agreement about committees, priorities etc. Especially as 4 of us are new to the Parish Council and not aligned to any of the major parties. (as far as I know).

So, let me run this by you for reactions. I'd like to prioritise:

1. Traffic calming.
2. More school places ( preferably funded by developer contributions if they want to get planning permissions).
3. More money to recreational facilities including the new Youth Club at the Rec; creation of more allotments; increased support for local clubs and grounds/pitches etc.
4. Support for this website and what Mark has been doing.
5. I'll continue to voluntarily write up Parish Council meetings for this site, though these will always have the unofficial rider to them. (just so long as the other Councillors have no objection to me doing this).
6. More police presence in the village - especially around the station at night. (There was another nasty assault three weks ago).
7. Sensible planning decisions.
8. Protect what's left of our green spaces.
9. Millennium Hall, Village Hall. Make sure they are run professionally and profitable and run for the benefit of all in the Parish.

What, in your view, have I missed/forgotten about?

I want to go into this job as well-briefed as I can, so I'm asking for feedback.

Replying to myself: Thank you for all the feedback so far. I have added the problems of lack of playgroup places and the long waiting lists; and lack of facilities for Liphook Football Club. I understand there are more than 200 registered players at Liphook and they have some great teams. What they now need is a better facility for changing, showering etc. Please keep sending me your feedback and I promise to raise issues at Parish Council level.
rgds to all
