Low altitude night flights over Liphook
- Marge (19th Sep 2016 - 04:41:34)
Is anyone else woken up today between 4.15 and 4.30 am by vibrations and noise caused by continuous low altitude flights over Liphook? Do THEY really assume it is fine, because we should be sleeping? One or two might have been acceptable, 15 minutes of one after another is not.

It sounded like a helicopter to me - most likely Police but could also have been Air Ambulance or possibly military. It's not like it is a regular occurrence is it...

By all accounts several shops in the area had attempted break-ins during the early hours of the morning and our brilliant police have already made an arrest !

Maybe the overdevelopment of Liphook is to blame for this crime spree

As someone who's recently moved to Liphook I'm slightly offended that you've essentially branded me a criminal. What a silly and petty comment to make!
As for the noise, it was quite clearly a helicopter circling.
| | I think it was more a case of statistically there will be more burglaries as populaton increases. Not necessarily pointed at new residents. |

It was possibly night training on the ranges. They need to do it to make sure the troops can handle themselves when deployed and have to go out in the dark.

I think Joan's comment was uncalled for too, do not blame buyers of new houses, the district council will have their government subsidies withdrawn if they refuse to build them, and our council tax wold increase to an unaffordable level if we have to fund all local services ourselves. The way of the future is to build, and build everywhere there is no choice for us to refuse, the proportion of criminals in the population per capita will be the same.

I think you are agreeing with Joan. More people, more crime.

it was the police helicopter looking for 2 people who had tried breaking into 2 shops , one of the being Andy's armoury. because of the goods he sells ie armoury they needed to act fast. you would all soon be up in arms if someone had come away with some armoury that could harm you . not that there is any live weapons in the shop. thank good for the quick response of the police helicopter they caught them. no harm done except a bit less sleep. And a few windows smashed.

Hi no not agreeing at all as new houses have to be built it could be that the housing built would be care homes for the disabled /elderly or a new community of monks/nuns? Or other religious people? I was trying to make the point that the planning system gives no option to refuse to build especially on the basis it might increase the criminality in an area?

H,
Is not your point also the point that Joan was making, i.e. that as the population increases, the crime rate increases proportionately?
